follow me on twitter, nerds. only restricted for a background check: @theryanwalsh. will follow back everyone. I’m still new and feel nerd is a term to embrace especially when following the team like I - and we all - do. Let’s think about how he fits in from day 1: 1) a third F to rotate with MD and OB. I’m sure this guys will get the lions share of the minutes, but having someone the coaches trust to fill minutes that my be available from foul trouble or injury is huge. It lets Oshae and Marek be able to be more physical on defense without worrying too much about foul trouble. 2) Cuse has another shooter. Brissett, Howard, and Boeheim will all be able to stroke from behind the line consistently, but it’s no secret we need all hands on deck with respect to that area. We have a bench utility guy who isn’t a liability on offense. 3) he’s a project, and we don’t have to worry about him bouncing to the NBA that quickly. We need to recruit more of these under the radar guys with the physical skills and disciple that aren’t starters out of the gate, but could develop into all-conference type guys. Our best teams have always mixed youth with veteran leadership. I’m not counting him out as an NBA prospect, but i anticipate him being on campus for three years. 4) he’s the child of a military family. This may be personal bias tinting my glasses rose, but don’t overlook this either. I grew up in a navy family. The constant moving matures you quickly. Constantly being the new kid requires you to humble yourself and places a giant chip on your shoulder. Think about the internal politics that goes into big school sports. Being an outsider always makes your inferior, until talent and determination eventually win out. This is a young man that has played in Europe and South Carolina - and quite possibly faces off against Zion Williamson, another SC native. I lived on military bases until the time I was 16, and played a lot of pickup basketball against full-grown male sailors. They push you mentally, and I’m sure Braswell has sharpened his axe againast better, more athletic competition. From the clips I’ve seen of RB - and the conparisons I’ve seen on this forum - couldn’t we consider that Brasswell might make a bigger contribution over three years at SU than Blazey would have in one? Is a five* frosh going to be better in his one collegiate season than a three* player would be be the time he’s a junior/senior? Developing players and not relying on teams of freshman has worked for UVA/UNC/NOVA/ZAGS/MICH, why not us? Excited for the commitment, we bagged a sleeper.

This kid will be good down the road and is a really important pick up. I’m not going to compare him to Golden since I think Golden would have helped more next year but I really like this kids upside and shooting. Year 2 and 3 he will be solid. We need bodies after next year at forward in the worst way.
