Shaq picked us to win, and then beat WVU and Houston en route to an elite 8! Wow. Our defense has picked up of late, and having the deeper bunch makes us a tad more versatile. I could see it. I haven't really watched as much this year though, so I can't say I have as much knowledge on any of the teams as I normally would. I've seen West Virginia like once this year, the other two (SDSU, Houston), none. If we get the Buddy from the ACCT, and AG gets hot at different points thoughout, we can really roll. We would need a consistently good Q to do that though. He's been a bit erratic of late.

Ironically I thought Joe was actually the better defender than Kadary vs UVA because of the conscious effort he was making to key on shooters. The zones rotations are good an all, but it goes out the window when you get torched like we did vs Hauser in the first game. The game plan was very clearly, "we will live with these guys taking 3's but not other guys." Joe was zeroed in the whole time to who he had to be out on, but sometimes his physical limitations make it moot.
Kadary on the other hand can get away with a brief lapse because he can recover more easily. But he certainly got lost at points and got bailed out on misses. I think he fouled Houser on a 3 because he had a lapse one possession.
Really just a long winded way of saying we will not be elite defensively regardless of who is in, but we can be good enough to win if we key on the right people to not get beat.

Kadry wasn't a 100 percent in ACC Tourney due to tendinitis in his knee. Hopefully he's back to full strength tonight. He's head and shoulders so much better than Joe except outside shooting.

10000% You have no argument from me on that front.
Simply saying that half the battle on D is just being aware of what shooters can hurt us and who we can live with taking shots. Joe has largely been poor with this too, but at least showed some strides in ACCT. I have said all year our best team is Kadary at the 1 and Buddy at the 2 which frees Joe up to come in and just hunt his offense which I think he is most comfortable.

His defense really is a difference maker for us - he does such an excellent job of shutting down passing lanes. Have to hope he's healthy.

Joe was more active that game - I've never been sure how much JG/BB are saving themselves on defense because of the minutes. There are times where both seem like they have an extra gear which takes them from pedestrian defenders, to slightly better than pedestrian. I would say the norm for them isn't enough effort for guys with slow foot speed. JG is more noticeable and in the UVA game he seemed to be more active.

JB is pouring on the love for SDSU. I don't like to hear about "good defense." I feel like that's our achilles heel. Pressure defense, when it's solid, really tends to hold us down pretty easily. We just lack the athleticism to reliably make plays. That being said, JB is more than likely being as effusive as possible, so let's hope they're a slow footed bunch and we're hot from deep. It's good we have Bras playing well of late, and Edwards, makes us far more versatile. Pretty typical for JB in the tournament. Always talk highly of the opposing team. Pumps up our guys and gives SDSU no ammunition. Smart! Iβm so ready. Great games so far. Disappointed for Va Tech... thought theyβd win.

I thought both had a good chance at winning. Ga Tech not having Wright was HUGE. He destroyed us, and that was a game-changer.

Perfect first half of basketball. Buddy has been incredible. Joe has hit some big shots. Bench play from Kadary, Bras and Jesse have been big. Best D theyβve played all year.

I could rewatch that game right now. Early on I thought we were in big trouble as they were getting what they wanted and missing. We seemed a tad slow. However, Buddy got hot, played an almost perfect game and eventually everyone else followed his lead. Joe picked up some slack, then Bras, Edwards was solid, Marek made some plays.........I don't have much to complain about. AT ALL. Let's go Orange!!!

By the way, when was the last time we had TWO 4 point plays in a game?
JG and Buddy!
