That was my takeaway as well. Could’ve been down BIG. Once our hoists/jacks from 3 pulling up started to miss I knew we were cooked. 27 offensive rebounds and 15-4 assists in favor of Villanova is lopsided. Doesn’t matter if Buddy is off or not. We are tactically doing so much 1-on-1 against a team like Nova who switches everything but has the bodies and athletes. It’s not winning basketball. If Edwards was just a little stronger and further along, and the refs were decent - he could’ve had 20-25. There were opportunities there. Nova was either fouling him with the call(and he was only 8-15 at the line), fouling him without the call, or taking the ball away for him - 1 or 2 great blocks from behind on him too. But he was “almost” there a number of times. He plays even just a little bit better and gets some whistles and he probably has 15-17. Get that a even just two open Buddy 3’s go down(he missed a few wide open, easy ones), and this is anybody’s game. Even with all our limitations, Edwards is not far away from being a game changer for us. If these stumpy little teams want to switch screens with him - most of them are not going to be able to do what Nova did - maul him. Nova’s got some animals, and they got the benefit of how the game was called too which made them even tougher to deal with. Jesse gets it to the rim a little quicker a few times and finishes through contact a couple times, and we suddenly have 4-5 more assists. He’s gonna have 7-8 hoops in a lot of other games where teams try to do what Nova did. Good stuff. I assume you have/had the same handle or something similar on the other board? Always enjoyed your posts. Jesse’s development is the main reason why I even watch these games. I don’t like this or most of these recent squads at all. Roster construction and management has been abysmal. It’s disgraceful how bad they are on the boards and how they are still seemingly allowed to go ISO ball against these superior teams. I realize they tried to involve Jessie early which is good. Fact remains that he still has trouble with strength and holding his position and knowing when to simply dunk the ball. Love the progress though. I really hope the strength gets there ASAP. Clearly what is holding him back. Otherwise, Buddy and Cole are allowed to just dribble and overdribble and jack shots like they are Kobe and Glenn Robinson. It’s asinine. Love Buddy’s improvement and work ethic but, IMO, he benefits from overusage and an insane green light/leash. I’m not sure how many legit Top 25 squads he would be one of the top options on. In fact, I think he would come off the bench on many. Same with Girard and Swider. Rautins for example was much quicker and really fired/exploded out of those curls. Love Villanova’s style and their positionless ball more-less and switching. Thought the game was reffed fine. We just crumble with these types of teams so it all gets magnified. I have UCLA friends and some Big East friends. Nobody has ever thought or complained that they foul too much or are too aggressive. Those teams have guards and personnel who aren’t bothered or affected to the point our guys do of getting discombulated or where every possession starts to look like a root canal. When all said and done we’ll be Bubble caliber again with all these shooters and Buddy as your alpha. That’s who we are now. We’ll be somewhere between 60-70 in the NET I bet. In a year where Boeheim talked up the squad to the media much like the White/Gillon squad. We may sneak in and get lucky with a W or two hoping a team is inept enough handling the Zone and our chucking from deep is unconscious. The team gets celebrated and Boeheim hits all the media shows nationwide lol. Just tired of the verbal diarrhea these days of “We didn’t make shots” or “What would the Bubble be without Syracuse.”

He doesn’t have a point guard, we have zero inside out game, and while I love Jesse he doesn’t pass like Marek, who can get Buddy the ball? He is limited, but he has zero help and literally the worst roster around him to make him successful.

But would he be used so much at Gonzaga or Michigan or even UConn? Alabama? No other coach would let him dribble around so much. The offense just wouldn’t be constructed around him. I don’t think he would be featured like he is here nor would he be playing 38mpg. No chance in hell. So, with better teammates he would play less or perhaps not even a viable part of a roster. Here he is option 1 thus thrust into the spotlight and needed to perform. Definitely agree about Marek. His passing as well as bringing the ball up masked a lot of problems. Those back cuts seem to be gone now. WOW. Indiana blew a 19 point 2H lead. Wisconsin wins 64-59 lol.

For our roster, yes we have to structure it around him because he is probably our best player, is that a recipe for success? Probably not, realistically there are a lot of players in the country who shoot 40% from three and he is one of them, he has good size and his drive to the middle with the little fade is good, the problem is that it is a little predictable as he’ll never put it off the window or drive all the way under the basket, but he does have success with it. I can see him getting 30 min a game with other programs, we have to keep in mind that even if his name was John Smith he’s still playing 38 a game here, Joe Girard does.
