I have seen a couple of Freeman HS games and have said he reminds me of college Jeff Green. I hope he is ready to play as a freshman but again this fanbase overrated Benny Williams. We need an impact freshman next year.
Moore I have read can shoot. I have no clue if he will be an impact freshman but hopefully he can be a rotation guy atleast. No clue if he will start.
This program is broken. If we aren’t moving on from a lot of players and portal hunting then i will feel Red knows he has security and longer than the fanbase will want. I can’t say again how stupid our fanbase is and like politics the boomers won’t give up the past.
This program needs a lot of work to be relevant. I know it took Hurley some time at UConn. I just don’t know if Red Autry is the same coach.
We don’t need one good year. We need to get back to where the tournament is locked up each year but February.

Hurley was the guy who followed the guy who came after Calhoun let’s not forget. But for real this roster is broken. Look at those starters today. Mintz is a head case and is delusional if he thinks he’s an NBA talent. Starling is OK but plays no D. Taylor is useless. Bell is useless except for threes and shouldn’t be a starter on a top tier ACC team. Brown nothing needs to be said. I guess we just wait on the portal and hopefully Westry has a full recovery

I like brown, Copeland mostly and that’s it. I don’t think Chris Bell can be a starting SF on a good team.
Starling needs to commit to defending as right now he’s a slightly worse on offense Joe Girard.
We need at minimum a starting sf and pg in the portal.
I’m not going to hammer Red too much this year. Unlike JB he’s beaten who he should. We just can’t beat anyone good.
His biggest mistake was counting on Benny this year.

He should have bounced Benny the second he had to suspend him before Game 1 and said as much. We would have lost to who we lost to early regardless and maybe we would have had a more solid rotation established at this point w/o the drama Im sure he brought throughout the season

If we have the extra roster space, and we likely do, I hold onto Bell and Taylor just cuz I have no issue with "program guys" that do their years and contribute. Taylor sucks, but as a dude that doesn't play, I have no issues. He seems like a nice practice guy that can give minutes in an emergency. Not sure those 4 year players exist much any more unless they're superstars at UNC. Bell is fine as a specialist sharpshooter that gets run based on how he looks depending on the game/matchup. Copeland and Brown are good. I like Starling enough. The Center position is dreadful though. If Green is legit that really fills one gap, and PG is going to be tough if Red has designs on JJ being that as the option as I'm not sure what the backup option is there. I assume we'll have some yet to be determined portal dudes as always. And then Westry I suppose.

I do think JJ has a way higher ceiling than Girard offensively though, and frankly I’m still very high on him and I think his defensive issues are fixable. We’ll see though. Being realistic, I hope we can find a Mika Adams-Woods level player in the portal. A solid, veteran guy who knows how to play, and can fit into the team. If Bonnies landed Woods, I don’t see why Syracuse couldn’t land the same level(at minimum) guy if Mintz is gone.

If we assume he has 2 more years then I think he has very high potential as a player and a local leader

He’s shown the ability to go by people and finish, has a mid range game, and can hit the 3. Early in the year I thought he showed some ability to pass and make plays for others. I think it’s there, and will come out more with Judah gone. The defense - I hope it’s just injury related and being cautious with the shoulder, and will go away - he has the physical tools to be better there. I’m very high on him going forward though. If Freeman is as advertised and is ready to be pretty good right away, I think our prospects look a lot better. Freeman and Brown could be really tough together.

Texting w friends about the state of the program, similar to what's been said in this thread. I think we/Red came into this season thinking we'd get sustaining/acceptable/adequate production from Cuffe, Taylor and Benny. Not only did we not get that, we also see that Carey and Hima are completely useless. Westry is what it is w that situation being an unpredictable injury. All of that is a perfect storm for disaster. We just couldn't absorb that much negative.
Where I have my biggest issue is Taylor. I totally thought he'd replace JG3 and be some level/version of JG3/Buddy. He is literally not only not that, he's probably a negative on offense. By that I mean if your shooting guard doesn't shoot open shots then that's kind of a fundamental offensive problem lol. At this point he's so bad that he elects not to shoot around 9 out of 10 times the ball comes to him, even when he has separation. It's like he needs a defender 6 feet away to even consider shooting. Horrible.
Judah is still mistake prone at the critical end of close games, just like last year. Despite everyone and their brother expressing the opinion on the airwaves and on message boards that Copeland should hold the rock at the end of games, Autry continues allowing Judah to dictate our fate. It's so frustrating. If it hasn't changed by this point then how does he think it ever will?
The score was 60-60. Judah turns the ball over. Next possession Judah misses a stupid acrobatic jumper. Next possession he gets fouled and misses the first free throw. Awesome. We literally have 4 guards and a small forwars in our starting 5 and throughout each game. I hope this shit changes next year and I hope Autry gets the pieces we need for next year. I can't fking stand this no-tournament life. UConn is laughing at us. We're pathetic at this point. Thanks for the daddy ball JB! Hope you enjoyed it!

Yeah, you can see how we thought this could work as a stop-gap year - McLeod is the tough one, but I suppose if it was just "grab someone - Edwards is gone" move you can understand it. I guess. The roster was relying a lot on improvements and no injuries though - and a lot of things didn't come to fruition. We had a good ceiling if Benny is good, Westry plays, and you saw some more improvement out of guys like Mintz, Taylor.

I guess 2 mins per game at Florida St wasn't a giant clue for Autry to stay away.

I can see what the plan was this year, Judah/JJ/Benny/Brown/Mcleod with Bell/Taylor/Westry/Copeland all playing 15 minutes or so a night with Hima/Carey spelling McLeod. Instead Benny was a head case, all 3 of our center options are hurt, Judah is selfish and Taylor may as well be a traffic cone plus Westry is hurt. Literally everything that could go wrong did and now we have out 5 starters and Copeland left to play. And I suppose Cuffe but he may as well be off the team too and Chaz Owen’s who is effectively a walkon
