Got to be a back-up plan at this point. With all the centers SU is recruiting it's pretty obvious going to PC last year.
Correction from Mike Waters, will be in a few weeks -

SYRACUSE
Syracuse has some shoes to fill in its frontcourt, and after Jim Boeheim and his staff made an early strike in the 2019 class in the form of Rivals150 guard Brycen Goodine, the Orange's frontline will be the point of emphasis this weekend.
The now and the future will be on campus, as Quincy Guerrier, a high-end four-star prospect, will spend an official visit. He has already visited Oregon and could potentially visit Illinois next month, as he will enroll in college mid-year and could actually suit up in a meaningfully game at the turn of the calendar year.
The Canadian talent will be joined by John Bol Ajak, a top-50 prospect in the center category who saw his recruitment really pick up this summer. Others including Georgetown, Pitt and VCU remain involved, but the Orange might be the favorite. Guerrier is not far off from a decision, and Ajak might not be, either, so Syracuse is in a prime spot to refill its frontcourt cupboard in the weeks ahead.

No way are we out on akok...I think hes probably the main priority right now for the staff....meaning I think we have Quincy pretty much wrapped up (after his Illinois visit) need to get akok and we are looking real good.

Really want Akok. Is he more of a 4 and Jba a 5?

Curious... how much do you think the reported injury played in JBA's decline in the recruiting rankings? I saw him play in person, and I walked away with the following impressions:
1. I like his outside shooting touch. It will be nice to have a big man that can help spread the floor. He can pass fairly well too. 2. He has good speed getting up and down the floor, but I felt like his lateral quickness was slow. I don't know if that was injury related or not. 3. He's much more of a face up big guy. I haven't witnessed much low post game yet. 4. He's a good rebounder who understands positioning. He strikes me as a bit soft, and not as tenacious as I'd like. Was the lack of tenacity due to his injury... I don't know.
That said, there's definitely material here to work with. He's ranked worse than that Majur Majak guy we recruited a year ago that ended up committing to St Peters. I definitely think he's better than Majak, however, who was raw real bean pole with zero offensive game. Definitely proves how inaccurate rankings can be. It'll be fun to watch how JBA progresses.

I agree with a lot of your points. This maybe a kid, depending on who else we may get a center, that could seriously use a redshirt next year. It does sound like the injury was a huge damper on his game and hopefully that is past him now where he can only improve his game.
