Obviously Dakota Leffew hasn’t decided, though it appears he’s trending towards Nova. Who else are we looking at?
Jaquan Carlos (Hofstra) not too interested DJ Wagner (Kentucky) connections with Fran Brown Roddy Gayle (isn’t a PG)
Are you even looking at anyone else? Most of the top PG’s have been taken.

From the gut, go after Gayle, maybe Wagner. But I’m not convinced of the rumors about Nova.

Jordan Pope?
UNC offered him. Shot 37% from 3. 88% FT Assist to turnover ratio isn’t the best at 3.4 to 2.3 Is not foul prone.
I know he’s a west coast guy, but if he’d go to UNC, why not offer? He’s more talented than Leffew.

I don’t know what kind of credibility Orangefog has but he hinted that Fran Brown might get involved in DJ Wagner’s recruitment (or at least that’s how I read it).
#FRANchise! LGO!

DJ has elite athleticism and is probably VERY hungry to redeem his value.

We recruited a guy like that last year and he still had a PER under 13 for us when everyone thought he would be better. The MAAC transfers on the whole did pretty good this year at power 5’s. The P5 guys that move laterally when they didn’t produce at their first school are usually a mixed bag.

Theoretically I don’t have a problem with an approach of a combo of “failed 5 stars” who may have a higher ceiling and 5th year MAAC type transfers who are experienced and frankly older and further along, not to mention have already proven to be productive in college b-ball games. I think taking a shot on a Chance Westry is well worth it. But you can’t have a full roster of that. I think bringing a Davis aboard is well worth it….but you also can’t have a full roster of that.

I think some people on the other board are making the mistake of thinking all combo guards have the same game. Frankly I don’t think Judah’s problem was him being a “combo” guard as much as it was he was selfish and lacked b-ball IQ.
There are plenty of combo guards that are unselfish and have high b-ball IQ’s that would do better at the point than Judah. IMO.
Also anyone that plays PG and has the ball in their hands all the time is going to get some assists. It doesn’t mean they’re a good PG, it just means a few times a game guys knock down shots after they pass it to them, and they might make a nice pass here in there….Judah just often made too many bad decisions with the ball - usually dribbling too much and getting tunnel vision on getting in the paint and drawing a foul were issues. Also not a great pick and roll PG largely because of his shooting. I think teams took passes away from him because they could afford to not worry about him shooting the 3 off the screen.
I think he would be best served at the 2 at a school where he could focus on leaking out and getting the ball in transition - he’s pretty deadly in those scenarios - very fast with the ball and a creative and explosive finisher in transition.

I am exhausted with half of the fans who thought Benny was good and wanted him to have everything spoon fed to him. Most of those same people want to go after some failed 5 stars. Just go get a player that was productive. The NCAA tournament was littered with former mid major players succeeding at Power 5’s this year. Nobody in our fan base would have been happy if we signed Tristan Newton, Mark Sears, Dalton Knecht, Cam Spencer had we signed them when they transferred because I swear all that matters half the time with people are what kids were rated out of HS regardless of what their college production has been.

Different era and situation but one of our best teams ever was due to Rautins, Johnson, and AO being like 22-23 years old. None of them were huge recruits either. Rautins in particular really got better later. Like midway through his 4th year is where I really remember him becoming a legit big time player, and then he went to another level completely in his 5th year.

Our fanbase is dumb. They are in a bubble where whomever is in charge knows what they are doing when we have been one of the laziest programs the last decade. You find the players at the lower level producing and call them up. Davis is a good pickup so we have depth and he can steal games when he is hot and somebody starting is struggling. The point of depth is reduce the margin of error of relying on few players. We need more quality players and stop looking at stars. I will say Wagner could have a Dion Waiters year 2 bounce wherever he goes. The biggest jumps in players come from Freshman to Sophomores. Also while we had Waiters sophomore jump we had a Senior and Junior guard to go with him. I wouldn’t go hard after Wagner I will just I think he will be a better player next year wherever he goes. Our program needs to find Brandon Triche and CJ Fairs at the lower levels. Those are the type of players that will help us. Stop obsessing with HS stars. We need guards who can play D and score some points. Instead we have had high usage SGs playing PG. I only want studs playing more than 32 mpg. Syracuse fans are have become stupid because Boeheim told them you only need starters as they don’t get tired. If we had Melo sure. Not what we have been throwing out there. Also sorry but Syracuse isn’t better than Texas the last decade. I get they have sucked in the tournament but again we haven’t played 1 conference basketball game as a ranked team the last decade. Not 1 game. We are a program that has been a plucky underdog team when we make the tournament that can do damage. Regular season matters some. I agree Texas isn’t two tiers better than us but it’s a better job than Syracuse.

They’ve been better than us the last few years because they’ve been in the tournament every year. But the only major thing they’ve ever really done(I don’t count the 1940s when black kids weren’t allowed to play) is make one final four in 2003 where they lost to us. They just never really make a run or do anything big.
