You heard it here first... Unless something shakes down big time in the next couple days, Dre is, well... he gone.

So who is going to be the 4-5 star replacement recruit so late in the recruiting cycle?

I don’t think we’re in on anyone else in this class. Noah committed to Pitt.

Dre to UConn (which is going to happen, let's get that out of the way) is a blow. I'm not disappointed because I think he's an all-world player, it's more that he's a local kid who we've been on for YEARS, so it's just bad optics. As a player... he's fine. Super athletic. Decent handle and a better passer than I expected. But he can't score outside of 10 feet. But it's the perception of losing him that stings.

In your honest opinion do you think UConn has gotten into the buying business with some of these? I mean really how are landing some of this talent in the last year or two with an a-hole coach like Hurley.

If we’re losing elite recruits because of money then we’re in a real bind because we have to be so squeaky clean that we’re just not going to keep pace. On the other hand, if we’re legitimately losing elite and often local talent to inferior teams, in inferior conferences, then our brand with JB has really really tanked. Both are serious problems.

Would’ve been nice to have a real explosive athlete like him, though. Something we haven’t seen here in awhile but, yes, the optics of this doesn’t look good. Also, a guy like Hami Diallo really improved his shooting and overall game throughout that year at UK so perhaps Dre could’ve as well. Really concerned and worried that this current staff and JB just can’t reel in elite players. We’ll see about the other Jackson but nobody on the current roster is elite. We have been lacking talent and athletes for awhile. Granted Quincy G is better than most rankings indicate but I need to see how he does against major D1 competition before declaring him some one and done. Woody Newton doesn’t seem to be a guy who could contribute early. Too raw. Not good in today’s game.

Sadly, I don’t think SU will see a class ranked in the top 10 until JB is gone. I wish I could write differently. The brand has been tarnished, and can’t be fixed unless we attract elite talent again. Top forty classes will have us clinging to the bubble year in and year out.

Nothing would make me happier than to see JB go out on top, or even just in a Final Four again. I just don’t see it happening.
