I’m in the camp who thinks we could be in big trouble if/when he leaves. He’s the only one who can create for himself in JB’s system. Often he still struggles against NBA types or bulldog defenders. Some people think it is addition by subtraction next year or beyond with Battle gone but I don’t share that same opinion. It would be different if JB runs Bennett’s system in terms of giving up good shots for better shots. Really probing a D. But, we don’t. Ball sticking and stopping is something JB is totally cool with. We likely will have zero competent inside game again and Dolezaj ain’t the answer down there.
Buddy will need to work on speed and explosion. Maybe train with the football team a bit? Carey needs to have a complete transformation in all aspects of his game (ballhandling #1, imo) to get minutes and those young guards coming in better be pretty quick and good ballhandlers as well or we will be middle-bottom of the ACC again. This will be another perimeter jump shooting team so how easy will we be able to generate good looks? Virginia purposefully works the clock and probes. Syracuse gets SC violations or piles on bad possessions upon bad possessions resulting in last sec heaves because nobody can shake loose from their man and get a good shot or set up a good shot. We have seen this all year and in recent years against any decent defense. If this is going to change without a post presence then we need more speed and ballhandling everywhere on offense. Jerome and Guy aren’t athletic freaks but they are quicker than Buddy Boeheim and are flawless/effortless ballhandlers. Good passers. Even Diakite/Salt are better inside than anything we have. Hunter is a pro.
But, back to ballhandling and guard play. Collectively even FSU and NC St’s guards completely outclass ours. Depressing.

When you try to convert 2G's into PG's, who have never played that position in high school, it's a recipe for disaster. Also we'll be in the same boat as neither one of the guards we have coming in our true PG's.

Carey was expected to come in and contribute right away (some garbage time MSG scoring really doesn’t count) but he hasn’t been able to bring the ball up the court sucessfully most of the season. Really alarming. I guess there is a chance he could still be very good but a BIG if. Who knows about Goodine. But, there is enough evidence now with FH, Kaleb, JCarey now that it isn’t really working. It’s setting the program back big time. If JB truly is going to be here three more years then he really needs to stop doing this and make it paramount to recruit a good PG moving forward. I don’t care if he’s 5’8.

Totally agree, Johnny Flynn was maybe 5'10" and if memory serves me right he turned out to be pretty good.

That's too bad for Tyus. I hope he catches a break and can latch on somewhere. He'll be fine though. He's a smart guy. He can get into coaching, or do something with his degree. He's got a lot to offer.

He'll either end up overseas or in G-League
