I think you’re spot on. Benny Williams projects to be the ideal small forward in Syracuse’s system and is someone that should wreak havoc on both ends of the floor. While he does need to get much stronger in order to hold up to the rigors of the ACC, his lateral abilities, quickness and length should be put to very good use within their vaunted 2-3 zone.
Offensively, Jim Boeheim consistently leans upon big wing scorers along the perimeter. Whether it was Malachi Richardson, Wesley Johnson or just this past year, Elijah Hughes, Williams seems to fit the mold. Now, he still has a lot of work to complete in order to reach the level of such former Cuse standouts, but he will come prepared thanks to his time on the high school and travel circuits. If he can continue to progress, Syracuse may have found its next star who fits their program as good as anyone in the 2021 class.

Nice clip Jazz. Yeah he looks really good. I think Quincy has to be a little nervous seeing guys like him (2021) and Newton coming in. Braswell will never see the court so not worried about him, but, both Benny and Newton have more polish and fluidity than Quincy, IMO. Maybe they just keep playing Quincy as a PF type undersized garbage guy (assuming offense doesn’t come along) which could be OK paired with a skilled 3.

I think you’re right about how we’ll utilize Quincy... he’s a very strong rebounder so unless one of our finesse centers has learned how to rebound that’s exactly what I see QG’s role being.

Makes sense. No guarantee he will have a season in the Northeast/mid Atlantic
Lots of talent at IMG. Get in some of their ears!

He’s a bit of a combo forward with the size and length to fit in well at either the bottom or top of their zone. Offensively, he’s good in the mid-range, tremendous along the baseline and is starting to extend his skill facing the basket. From John Wallace to Carmelo Anthony to C.J. Fair to Oshae Brissett and many others, players like Williams have been able to thrive at Syracuse.

Williams has been a busy man. He just graduated from high school and enrolled at IMG Academy for a prep year and, throughout it all, has continued to improve, which is why he climbed 29 spots in the latest Rivals150. Williams has filled out well into his frame during the quarantine and still has further room for weight gain.
He is the ideal perimeter wing scorer for Jim Boeheim’s offense. Williams needs to refine his ball skills and extend the range on his jumper but all of the abilities are there. He is no longer just a down-the-road type of prospect but now a five-star that, if he continues to progress, could knock on the door of one-and-done status following his freshman campaign at Syracuse.
