This is my early take on this upcoming season. Naturally the trip to Italy will give us a much better indicator of where the team is at, and what we might expect from the freshman. As of now, these are my projections:
I think the opening starting lineup (barring injury) will be:
Carey PG Buddy SG Hughes SF Dolejaz PF Sidibe C Bench: Guerrier, JG3, JBA, Bras and Goodine Analysis: not enough beef, bad defense
I think our best lineup will be:
Carey PG Buddy SG Hughes SF Guerrier PF JBA C Bench: Dolejaz, Jesse, JG3, and Goodine
Analysis: This lineup adds some strength and IMO is better both offensively and defensively. Sidibe will succumb to the bench, and one if not both of the freshman centers will have to be ready to go. I hope like hell that Dolejaz doesn’t have to play center or it’ll be a very very long season. JG3 will earn most of his minutes at the point guard spot. Goodine will spot Buddy. Bras is a wildcard.
BEST CASE PREDICTION: 20 wins and a first round NCAA tournament loss
WORST CASE PREDICTION: 14 wins, and JB’s first losing team
WAY TOO EARLY GUESS: 17 win season, NIT, early exit

I agree with the prognosis and ceilings of the team. I think it will be a struggle to stay in that bubble realm/talk and get to the 20 win plateau.
The recent team photo with BA at Melo Center just illustrates also how skinny and how much lack of beef/physicality there is on the roster. Not good.
Yeah, we’ll just have to see how Carey progresses and if Hughes can add more dimensions to his game. If Quincy G is indeed the real deal as some whisperings behind the scenes are indicating, then I don’t see how he doesn’t start. Would be great if he had some court vision like Marek and not a ball stopper and/or like CJ Fair in terms of not quite being the level of player one should be running the offense through.
The other recruits who knows. Hard to depend on borderline Top 100 guys. With the exception of Culver, who was a true 3* young gem, all those Texas Tech under-recruited guys were seasoned vets and/or transfers who had played a lot of b-ball before the run they made. Our guys are unproven.
If it’s the same standing around and lack of movement on offense, mediocre D, etc., then this will not be a fun season.

I missed that team photo, anyone have the link?
In order to come close to making the tournament our freshman are going to have to be far more advanced and ready than most usually are. Dolejaz needs to have bulked up, which from all indications he has not. I’d sit his ass on the pine until he takes his responsibility as a scholarship player seriously. The offseason isn’t just for vacation and cigarette smoking.
Anyhow, I can’t remember entering a season with more question marks than we have this year. I hope to be pleasantly surprised, but I’m not banking on it.

You’re right Sobe... our guys are looking pretty thin. JG3 looks jacked compared to Carey and Goodine.
