He was one of my favorites at SU too.

Loved the two JB stories. Think both of those things tell you who he is for better or worse. (And for the 2021 college athlete a lot of times it is worse)
Not necessarily motivating, but more challenging. Tyus was certainly a bulldog and a gamer who liked the challenge.

That buzzer beater at Clemson was my favorite moment. Lydon with the nice pass to him.
Would’ve been interesting to see how he would’ve developed at Michigan.
Those Frank/Tyus/Chukwu/Oshae teams were hard to watch offensively. Really horrendous ball offensively but some really strong defensive play at times especially in that S16 run. Not sure I have seen such a poor offensive team in a long time. Howard/Oshae/Tyus were all decent recruits too. They barely moved the ball, pounded the rock in place, passed back&forth, shot clock winding down then a drive or a launch. Lots of bricks and lots of charges. Can’t figure out if that was the plan? Could these guys just not pass? Just awful. Very little off ball mvmt and lots of standing around. There were two games late in the season where we had 3 assists and 4 assists as a team. Unreal.

Tyus and at times Oshae were the only ones who could get to the hoop. And none were reliable threats to shoot outside. (Maybe Frank his Sr year)

Yep this was the yearly trend of trying to convert 2G's into PG's with no success. Thanks JB.

(Maybe Frank his Sr year) That was part of it but the design of the offense was simply godawful. Nobody would cut when drives were happening. Lots of standing around and as mentioned before, lots of charges. There were also times when Frank was so bad that when he and Chukwu were in together it was 3 VS 5 on offense. Still, one would think something better could’ve been drawn up.

The other teams like Maryland/GTown/Ohio St were recruiting him as a SG. It was extremely telling to me in hindsight now how scared to death the staff was having Frank going into that JR season as the PG. They were going after Quade Green as hard as we have ever pursued a recruit. No way they did not promise him the keys to the bus. 5* McD kid? He would’ve started. Of course, Frank was having no part of that. Bullied Quade on his visit and another recruit as well.

I always felt like Tyus was really clutch. He wanted the big shot and seemed to make a lot of clutch ones. I think i would define clutch as under 2:00 jumpers, not necesarily just buzzer beaters Tyus at michigan or Paul Harris on any team other than syracuse. i wonder how he would have done elsewhere a lot? maybe like pitt?

It’s 100% true. He actually had some good instincts there initially and some decent court vision like you said. But, he was just too slow, had a handle not quite ideal enough to be a high caliber lead guard, and the mental issues/discipline stuff as well. He played a tiny bit of PG occasionally for his AAU team but only SU tried the conversion to PG recruitment.
