It was nice to get a W on the road, however game should have been over early in the 3rd quarter. Like a lot of people have said, why Dungey wasn't put back in at the beginning of the second half was mind boggling. When your team is on a roll like they were on offense the last thing you want to do is pull one of your best players and watch things fizzle away. It didn't help that the defense decided to stay in the locker room the whole third quarter and give up 28 points. There is no reason for that to happen. At this point it's time to give Ward a few more games to see any kind of improvement and if not it's time for Dino to cut the chord. The defense was pretty bad toward the end of last season and again pretty much the whole second half of the first game of the season. I do not understand that he hardly ever substitutes any of the LB's. Whit and Guth weren't too bad the first half but Whit didn't look the second half. I'm not sure why Cullen or Williams didn't get any kind of run. It's almost like last year where he played the starters almost all game and then by the end of the season they were dead tired. By not subbing you don't get these other guys any kind of run or experience which is going to carry over this year. I also think our DL needs to get a pass rush, not sure where they were Friday night but it seemed like most of the time the QB for WMU could have had his lunch back there with the amount of time he had to throw. As far as the DB's go, Scoop looked really bad at times and hard to believe this was the same kid as last year. Cordy I could see as he's hardly played at all the last two years and think as season goes he will only get better. I really would like to see some of the freshman play more if some of these guys regress.
Back to the offense, again everything looked smooth when Dungey was at the helm, however outside of Custis our WR's sucked. If Riley and Butler are going to be that bad in the next few games it's time to let others get in the rotation. Was surprised Pierce didn't get many passes thrown his way. He and Custis look to be our best threats so far on receiving core. The RB situation to me still doesn't make sense. I like Strickland and get that he's one of the best that knows calls at the line, but at times as far as RB I think he's average and that Moe is better than he is. Strickland just doesn't have that second gear at times to break the long run. In some ways I will be glad when he graduates and look forward to Moe and the guys that will be around next year.
Was really impressed with kicking game along with our kick-off/punt coverage.
Should beat Wagner this week and hopefully UConn the following week. Really looking forward to the FSU game in 3 weeks and hopefully can get a signature win.
Would love to hear thoughts on the game from posters.
