I watched some of his games on YouTube and he isn’t what I would want. He plays like Mintz or Starling. We need bodies so I am okay with getting him but this team needs more defensive and pass first type of guards then shot hunting high usage guards. Again not beat a dead horse but find more players like Carlos who are PGs than combo guards. We are just trying to be a bubble team I get but I feel this season is going to be frustrating unless Freeman is a lot better than I think he will be next year. Chris Bell and JJ Starling need a defensive guard on the floor so teams don’t abuse us on defense. PnRs, cutting guards, motion are vulnerable with Starling and Bell. Mintz was more interested in going for steals and just being lazy than being a natural bad defender like the other 2. More and more it seems Westry is going to be a huge key to the team. If he’s healthy, we should be good. If he’s not, we could have another rough year. Yeah Westry is important and it’s crazy that with state of our program. No NCAAT 3 years in a row. No top 25 ranking 5 years in a row. However we have been top 3 in attendance every year except Covid year and the administration gets their $$$. Crazy we are relying on an unknown who isn’t even elite but just solid if he is healthy. Our fanbase is getting dumber, older and accepting this crap.

The more and more I'm seeing how our offseason is playing out, the more and more I'm realizing that we are going to be insanely dependent on Westry absolutely being a monster (which is likely a long shot, at best, and that's even if he stays healthy).

This is like a baseball team collecting a revenue sharing check more than their payroll. Its not a lot of money to fill a team that will make the dome explode again? But they won't do it and people still go. Stop going, stop watching and let them get their shit together. Fran Brown has never been a head coach and made us a threat after being a 20 year joke. No excuse for basketball to be in this spot. I said I was giving Red three years but I don't like where year two is heading.

A) The fanbase previously accepted bubble level seeds with decent tourney runs as successful seasons, if you pointed out that these reg seasons were a problem, you're negative..that turned into.. B) Not making the tourney? Oh well, we'll get them next year. C) Now? Oh well, it's not that bad. 20 wins is good. You are all negative. We'll be back. Unfortunately, we really needed a season like LVille had, for better or worse, WITH Jim to open up eyes and get it turned around. Now I feel like the fanbase is cool with being mediocre and doing "MEMBER WHENS" talking about Melo and the old Big East. Feels very much like the current Chicago Bulls if you follow the NBA, they still pack their arena, get the 9 seed, and talk about the ol' Jordan days.

Would much rather have Smith from Colgate He had an amazing game against us before hurting his ankle. He seems on the smaller side, but always seems to have the perfect scoring point guard mentality. If he has it he's scoring, if he doesn't he has no problem making the pass and making the right play.

The Bulls always have great attendance and that is all Reinsdorf cares about. Our fanbase is high on ‘member berries from Southpark. The negativity has been driven out when it wasn’t negativity it was realism. However queen Joyce doesn’t want to hear it. Foot soldiers want their access to sit courtside so the reality isn’t heard. Our fanbase doesn’t get it. Our fans will pay to support basketball but the school won’t help the NIL and we are stuck with the gaslighting. Boeheim made himself bigger than the program and now the program is where it is. The Dome and cable TV helped the program a lot. Go look at our rosters from 1988 thru 1991 we wasted a LOT of talent. Just look at what has happened at Maryland and Georgetown. When Izzo goes Michigan State will go down. Our program is old money and I doubt we will get another golden era of 2010-2014 because our administration is the biggest problem.

The more and more I'm seeing how our offseason is playing out, the more and more I'm realizing that we are going to be insanely dependent on Westry absolutely being a monster (which is likely a long shot, at best, and that's even if he stays healthy).
I’ve heard nothing but good reports on his game - so I’m not as worried about that part of it. But the health is tough. Two straight years. Rust could be an issue - though maybe not. Billy Edelin sat out his first year and a half, and he came right in hooping.

Ah, you’re right. I was thinking of his first home game, which was against Seton Hall and he played well. Possibly the coldest walk I’ve ever experience up to the Dome. I remember giving my dad my hat, as my coat had a hood. I don’t think he would’ve made it without that hat - he was starting to desperately look for a building to go into, lol.
