Glad you aren’t worried. Wish I shared the same sentiments. I like his potential and promise but he’s not Ja Morant either in terms of explosion and athleticism. There’s a reason why he isn’t a Top 50 player. He’s not going to overpower guards the way Dion Waiters did. Coby White also was able to drive on and post up guards. He could even absorb contact and finish over bigs. I don’t think BG is on those kinds of levels. His jumper could be an asset early on but he’s a four year player, IMO, and much of that has to do with strength. 🤔 You are right to think hes not a Ja Morant, Dion waiters or a Colby white....I mean cmon dude u just named 3 guys that are absolute stud NBA talent. There is only so many of those type of players in ALL of college basketball. Hes definitely not like any of those 3 and probably never will be seeing as though they are not the normal college basketball talent. The only things u were right about regarding white is his ability to absorb contact and finish at the rim even around bigs. He didnt overpower anyone all year long and his ENTIRE game all season was blowing by dudes going to the hoop driving and shooting 3s. He wasnt posting other guards up so I'm not sure where u got that or if u were watching the same guy? Dion u are spot on about tho. He was a beast and overpowered just about any guard he played. U said theres reasons for BG not being top 50 yet hes ranked 75 on ESPN. Not much of a difference between a kid they rank 50 and a kid they rank 75 so that's pointless. Bouknight is in the 60s and I like BG much more then him. Not sure what BGs ceiling is but I do know hes going to be a very good player for us. He could definitely use some added muscle and strength because obviously that will only benefit him but like I said earlier, I'm not worried in the least bit about him or his ability to play at a high level for us. Kid is good. The guards hes going to go up against arent no linebackers compared to him. Again, our bigs is a different story. That's where we need to muscle and size which we dont. But hey man I appreciate your opinion on it and it's all good because we dont have to agree on anything. These forums are all fun and games! I love the banter, trust me. We all want Syracuse to be able to be an actual contender and not just use the Zone to flummox/confuse teams while doing just enough offensively to get by. Maybe you misunderstood me. I saw a few games White posted up guards but, yes, his game was like you describe. I meant overpowering in terms of absorbing contact on any level. He can absorb bumps and hand checks out on the perimeter. Also, his handle is TERRIFIC. Something we have seen guards struggle with re: our combos coming in. Maybe he’ll be fine but I’ve seen enough of Kaleb Joseph, Frank Howard, and Jalen Carey to have some serious doubts moving forward and seeing is believing. Maybe the staff is simply picking the wrong cats. We agree he can finish against bigs. I don’t see that from BG. I don’t think many predicted White to be a one and done. Many services also had him as a SG not a PG. BG is going to be the scrawniest guard on the floor and that matters if he doesn’t check some ‘elite’ boxes in terms of athleticism/shooting. Our guys are certainly checking all the boxes in terms of lack of physicality. That’s all positions maybe excluding Tyus the past three years. It’s a factor. Again, I think we just have to temper expectations re: BG. He probably is a gem but I’m just too skeptical (maybe for worse not better) of our track record lately with combos coming in. I do think he shows promise. No question. But for Boeheim to avoid his worst season ever, especially if Carey falters again, BG is gonna need to come in and ball big time right away, IMO. Like all-ACC frosh team level. Is that possible? Time will tell. Same with Quincy G if Oshae leaves and I don’t want to even think about the potential rebounding problems then. Lots of ifs. We have coaching question marks as well. Whether we can actually move the ball crisply and not stagnate. Whether Boeheim can actually change in that matter. We could not run more last season despite everybody wanting to push the pace more. Without NBA ISO talent I just don’t think Boeheim is comfortable in terms of X’s/O’s and being able to design crisp offense. Will Girard be able to get good looks off the ball? We had a hard time getting Cooney good looks and he’s a better athlete than Girard. At least similar. Look at Virginia. If Jerome or Guy needed to get an open shot they could generate one. Everybody was scheming for them and chasing them around. Well, you screen better. Rescreen, reverse the ball, etc. We don’t hardly ever move the defense. Not debateable. Again, I’ll have to see to believe better offense. Especially without NBA talent.

Most of our players with the exception of Hughes and Guerrier this season are undersized (lacking in weight and strength). Dolejaz, Carey, JBA, Edwards, Sidibe (if he can play) and Braswell are all on the thin side. Even Oshae needs to get much stronger, and has failed to do so in his first two seasons. We're just lacking physicality, and have been for a while now. We get outmuscled against physical teams. IMO this isn't a Goodine issue as much as it is a team issue, a recruiting issue and a strength and conditioning program issue.
