I don’t think it’s losing Dre individually that hurts, it’s what the loss represents. Dre is a slasher with elite athleticism, that needs to get stronger and can’t shoot. He’s a really interesting kid with a high ceiling. Under different circumstances, losing him would be no big deal.
But, there’s just no pussyfooting around it. We are about to whiff on our top target, a local kid, to lowly UCONN. We invested tons of time with him and we’re coming up empty. That’s sad, and scary.
I think we are naive if we think our recruiting challenges are going to get better under JB. Our 2019 class is a top 40 class, hardly a top 10 (though it’s certainly possible it may prove to be better). Our 2020 class is looking like Woody and nothing else. Even Woody strikes me as a project player despite his ranking.
My point is this... considering JB’s age, these were the two classes we had to come up BIG TIME, and we didn’t. Sure a top 40 class will keep us on the bubble, and in the middle of the pack in the ACC. But don’t we want more than that? Maybe we’ve been spoiled, but that’s not what I want or expect of Syracuse Basketball.

Good post tomcatcuse. I share pretty much the same concerns. It’s what got me banned from the other board. Simply voicing similar concerns. I think the style of play the past few years especially watching the snails pace with Frank Howard as well as anemic post play for years has severely hurt our brand. I think the longer Boeheim stays on hurts our brand. I’ll have to see it to believe it re: pushing the pace, good ball movement, etc. It just hasn’t been in JBs comfort zone recently to play those ways for whatever reasons. All zone doesn’t help things either no matter how many rubes on the other board try to defend it. We hear it all the time on draft day with the scouts and analysts in evaluating SU players so that perception IS out there fair or unfair. I think that many H.S. and AAU coaches would prefer that their elite players go elsewhere especially with how the Hopkins debacle still has left an ugly stain. Hopkins was also the good cop and the father figure for kids to lean on when dealing with JB. I may be in the minority but I truly believe recruiting will be humming once JB is out and Wildhack makes big/name hire. All zone will be out and the brand will be solid again hopefully with a much younger coach with a lot of fire and charisma. I can’t prove this but it’s just a gut feeling.
Hopefully this team has better chemistry and that Carey and Quincy G play well against good D1 competition. Maybe we get lucky and sign IJ but I bet Oats will be trying to sell him against us with how UB thumped and totally outclassed us in every facet of the game last season. He’ll say we play lazy, lack fundamentals, and are a finesse team. Which...we kind of are.

Listened to Brent Axe's show on espn, where he had Mike McAllister on. Mike did a nice job of breaking down what happened with Andre. Basically that cunt Hurley and his crew shit on our program (zone) and told him he would not get the PT he deserves if he stayed sort of home.
I do not get it, to me the whole Ollie lawsuit for 10 million (Calhoon guy) and how some of the boosters are angry at the school seems like a toxic situation. Oh and the probation they got dropped on them in July does not look good either. Then there is the AAC, do not get me going on that. Just read any of my other posts.
Lets see if Red can grab the other Jackson, to be honest I would rather have him than Andre. Nothing against Andre but how many 6'5 -6'6 guys can one team actually have? We need a low post presence, and someone who weighs over 200 pounds.

UConn is back in the Big East starting next season I believe so road games all over the Northeast will be nice as opposed to playing @cincinnati @ SMU @tulsa, etc. I mean I don’t blame Hurley. Much like how Oats’ UB team big boyed us...so did UConn. They got up in our grills with good M2M and we crumbled handling their tough D. I think they sprinkled in some Zone too and we were inept. We have had ballhandling woes for far too long. I’d be recruiting against us that way as well.

I agree that I’d rather have Isaiah than Andre, but we definitely need more beef. JBA, and Jesse (not to mention Sidibe) are all lightweight Bigs. I wish we had at least one bruiser. We were so soft last year.
As for potentially losing Andre and Isaiah to Hurley and Oats...it sucks. But if I was recruiting for one of those teams, I’d negatively recruit against us too. It’s working.
