The Orange had both of their 2020 class members, Woody Newton and Kadary Richmond, in action over the weekend. While Richmond had a few good moments, it was Newton that really jumped off the page. He is shooting 10 times better compared with the travel season and seems much more confident with what he can achieve. Newton is perfectly molded for how Syracuse wants to play. He is due to go through some growing pains next season, like most freshmen endure, but Orange faithful should be pretty excited about its next rangy forward standout.

I like Kadary a lot but I really think we would have been much better off if we had recruited someone who can bang down low, rebound and defend. Kadary is really talented but we don’t need more guards.

Seriously what type of top recruit wants to play in this crappy product and play for a coach who should have retired two years ago but AD didn’t have the balls to do it

I don’t know what can be done to make us attractive to play at. Other than a new younger coach, and a new system. I’m grateful we got Kadary and Woody to sign the letters of intent so they can’t back out. But we need a strong inside guy so much more. I’m bumming

Are we really gonna put him at the 3? Another square peg into a round hole? Do we see Buddy and Girard not keeping their current deployment? I mean I doubt Boeheim would change. No way Carey is going to stay. We’re going to need another playmaking guard I think. Or just some scorer. I can’t see Hughes staying since he will be 22 in March! Next year could be a 10 win team the way things are shaping up!

Next year could be a 10 win team the way things are shaping up! I actually think JB wanted to transition to positionless basketball with lots of shooters. I think that’s why he recruited JG3, Goodine, and the big guys that can shoot. I think you can see that during the games we’ve played weaker teams we’ve been running and gunning, and shooting high volumes of 3 point shots. Where he’s miscalculated is that I think he thought he could do without size because the speed and matchup problems he hoped to create with having all shooters on the floor. He’s now witnessing that you can’t run if you can’t rebound. You also can’t live and die by the three without having players who are strong and skilled enough to score inside and finish through contact. We are completely one dimensional when we play physical teams, and resort to chucking up long contested threes. Linking this back to Kadary, I think he’ll play... what position remains to be seen. If he can bring some physicality to the backcourt I can see him playing guard. But who the heck knows. I can see Elijah leaving too which could necessitate him playing the 3.

Yeah I have no idea how this will work. Carey failing fucked up a lot of things much like Kaleb J. Maybe as a playmaking 2 for Kadary? I can’t see him playing the 3 although that was said in the article. I mean he’s still thin, 6’5, and apparently allergic to defense/rebounding. Girard is going to play close to 40. Maybe he backs him up after all? Who knows if Goodine will ever make it but I doubt he will ever handle being a PG. Maybe he’s a 2 coming off the bench as hopefully instant offense? All this Girard/Buddy has fucked up a lot of things. JB will never pull him from starting. You know JB goes with what is convenient and rewards experience. Just don’t see how these role players will be pulled from starting. It’s not like we have a 5* PG or SG that you simply must put in the lineup. Richmond will probably be good but he’s not a difference maker. Not right away at least.
