During his senior season at Orlando (Fla.) Christian Prep, Jones showed he had natural talent, but playing alongside Nassir Little and CJ Walker, he didn’t quite breakout. Then he scored an invite to NBA Global Academy, where he started to take off.
This past weekend at the Under Armour Challenge and then at Shun Williams’ Elite 32 event, Jones showed elite upside. Its start with his physical gifts At 6-foot-10, Jones has good length, he races end to each with incredible ease, he’s quick off his feet and is an explosive athlete.
Jones also plays with great energy and impacts the game by grabbing rebounds and protecting the rim. Then there’s his developing jump shot. He shoots the ball with confidence and made multiple three-pointers in a viewing at the Elite 32.
Jones still lacks weight and strength, but once he adds that, the ceiling is high. – Daniels

The rise of Kai Jones has been pretty remarkable over the past couple months. He’s gone from a prospect who was on the radar of high-major coaches in April with no firm offers to a prospect with over 30 offers. The most recent to join the mix was Florida State earlier this week with Kansas, Syracuse and Providence putting scholarships offers out last week.
“I’m still in the early stages. It’s been a fun process. I’m just taking it slow and trying to find the best fit for me,” Jones said. “All the schools are great. I’m blessed to have a lot of choices, but right now I’m just focused on getting better. I’ll probably narrow my list down and take my visits starting next month and most likely sign during the early signing period.”
The Florida State offer has his attention.
“It was great. It’s a good school. Before I started playing basketball, it was a school I was working really hard to get into. So now it’s kind of a blessing to have a scholarship offer from them. It’s kind of surreal.”

Seminoles look to make moves
Florida State has the start of the Willie Taggart era with a Monday night home game against Virginia Tech. Doak Campbell Stadium should be absolutely rocking, and the Seminoles hope to impress recruits with that.
Slated to visit are four-star prospects Rocket Watts, Omar Payne and Kai Jones.
The Seminoles have been viewed as one of the favorites, if not the favorite for Watts. Also people think it could end up being a Florida-Florida State battle for Payne. Jones is a bit more wide open, but getting him for his first official visit is a big boon for the Seminoles.

FSU the favourite here, no? Hard to say at this point, he seems somewhat wide open at this point.

3. We are a little over a week from updating the rankings, what player on the fringe of the top 100 deserves a big boost in the update?
Evans: Kai Jones would be the best bet. Sitting at No. 123 overall in the 2019 class, Jones is still far from a consistently productive ballplayer, but he also boasts one of the best basketball ceilings of anyone in his class.
Jones will head to Brewster Academy this fall for his final year of play and it would not surprise at all to see him take his game to another level. He is a competitive forward with a wealth of abilities and going up against top players New England, Jones’ down the road potential might not be so down the road by the time March rolls around. Anything short of a 50-spot jump within the next Rivals150 might be a disservice.
