So last night JB has his weekly radio show as always. Either he is straight lying through his teeth or he’s losing his grip on reality. I wonder if Wildhack tuned in. Some comments are pretty alarming and sad, frankly. Here are some notable quotes...
On Virginia. “If you think we’re going to go to Virginia and win you must buy lottery tickets thinking we’re going to win.” Why make the trip then? Are you mailing it in before it even starts?
Somebody asked about giving Buddy/Joe a rest when they are bricking shots and putting Kadary/Griff in there. “Allen is not a guard. He’s having trouble playing the forward spot.” So what is he? He was a guard at Illinois and sure looks like a prototypical SG.
About giving Marek rest and playing other Cs. “Marek is our best ball handler and defender. How long do you want to take him out for?” What?! OMG.
On Buddy. “He’s a little off.” Says he is shooting the equivalent of 42-43% from 2 being at 27% from 3. What?! Buddy has one of the worst eFG% in the league. Joe is better actually.
On why the team is 255 in the country shooting 3s and 31.4% as a team. “We need to be around 35-36% (still not great). That’s one or two more threes per game.” Says lack of a C doesn’t effect our 3pt shooting issues. What?!
This sounds like a coach who has lost all grip on reality and that the game has passed him by. I mean what else are we supposed to think. Really sad.

Good post Sobe. Sadly it’s nothing new. Same old song and dance from JB. I’m so tired of it. Your post is spot on.

We’re actually a good shooting team that doesn’t have a post game and poor ability to drive to the basket so the shooters get guarded very tightly on the perimeter. But you make a point... JB needs to retire. I appreciate all he’s done, but he’s staying too long. He can’t recruit a balanced roster anymore. Gotta have more than beanpole big men and guards that are to slow to blow by anyone.

Bueller?! Wow, nobody interested in this? I just got around to reading this. Horrible quotes I agree. The Virginia lottery ticket thing is insane. We're not even talking about winning the game, just how poorly he coached the game and we played and how we got absolutely demolished by a team that should not have demolished us like that. I mean who the fk is Hauser? No Kyle Guy, no De'Andre Hunter, no Ty Jerome, yet they retool with what appeared to me to be zero NBA caliber players, and they STILL demolish us! Da fuq man! What happened to this program?!

The lottery ticket line is infuriating. Like yes JB, we expect to be a perennial top 25 team that can win anywhere.
What I do agree on is the Allan Griffin stuff, I know a lot of people on here think Kadary should be at the 1 and Griffin at the 2. I like AG's game and think he has kind of taken some of JB's comments to heart in terms of being more of a player and not just shooter. But he cant handle a lick. Legit has the loosest handle I have ever seen. Last nights turnover reinforced that. He is undersized on the boards down low but he is an athlete and think it is just a better fit overall.
Now last night just simply reinforces the idea that Kadary needs 35 minutes at PG. And let Buddy and Joe G split the rest based on the hot hand or match up.

Yeah, he's arrogant, and he's either consciously or unconsciously skewing reality in order to rationalize toward a preconceived set of specious perspectives. This isn't new. It's just becoming more and more blatant and ridiculous because we don't have positive standings and results to care more about.
When he said years ago that we don't do gameday shootarounds because he once had a player sprain an ankle during one... well, that was the tipping point for me, when I recognized he's not the intelligent and rational and logical person his fans portray in their effusive/defensive posts.
I have kinda 'liked' JB's personality at times, I love what he's done for the program and the community, but I've never been impressed by his coaching. Even when we were regulars in the top 10, I've felt he was overrated. This kind of stuff—from the radio show—that's incredible, but not surprising.

Yeah I do admit I have enjoyed his surly nature and dry humor at times. However, he’s never been the most eloquent or intelligent guy out there. I also am tired of the spectacles at pressers where he bullies media and berates players in public. I also detest how he gives up too easily in terms of, “We can’t do that” or “We don’t have that” or “We aren’t...” and so on and so forth. Make them be good at it! Teach them! The guy isn’t John Wooden either. I once heard Jay Wright on Sirius a couple of days after the last title. He said to Packer that when he recruits players he tells them that (paraphrasing) they will all learn to be good rebounders, passers, and defenders. I love it.

Good points but I’d like to see it at least for a bit. We have had PGs with worse handles than Griffin. Kaleb Joseph and Jalen Carey were two. I think he gets in trouble when he is in traffic and in a congested area. I’ve seen him make drives to the rack before without issue. It’s more speed at the 2 with him there as well. But this is all void and won’t happen regardless. We would need a F opposite Q to be able to contribute consistently and that doesn’t seem possible. Or a C to be able to contribute to slide Marek over to F but that’s probably not going to happen either, sigh.

Put Buddy and Joe at 15-20mpg as the 7th/8th guys on Gonzaga/Michigan/Iowa and that’s how they would be successful. Those teams have complimentary pieces and solid rosters. Buddy/Joe would be automatic catch n shoot snipers not doing too much. Not like all this overdribbling, ISO ball, etc., here. Unfortunately, you are what your record is and what the numbers say.
