HIGH level game here. Major athletes all over the court. Mitchell on Baylor is the most explosive guard with the rock I’ve seen in awhile. Devonte Davis is a NICE looking frosh on Arkansas. Smith is a nice post player. We aren’t even in the same stratosphere as these clubs. Wow, humbling.

The discrepancy in athleticism between these clubs and ours is very easy to see. Our gimmicky zone can beat some nIn-conference finesse teams but we lose 9/10 games against really physical, aggressive, strong teams. Our Sweet Sixteen was nice, but it truly was a reach for our guys to get that far.
The teams remaining in the tournament are all superior athletically than ours.

We literally beat two very solid and physical teams to get there. WVU was a deserving 3 seed and SDSU is a good team that returned everyone from a surefire 1/2 seed last year.
Do not get me wrong I understand the discrepancy between us this year and Baylor/Ark. But why is that a surprise? You are comparing a bubble 11 seed to a 1 and 3 seed.
Yes that was ultimately our Achilles heel vs Houston. We should did not have the athletes or talent to hang. But there are also a lot of superior athletic and talent filled teams who went home before we did. (UNC vs Wisco for example). My overall point is that we were one of the last teams into the field who did not get a bye. Of course the second best team all year and a solid 3 seed are going to be head and shoulders above us.
That has been my biggest issue with the last 6 years. Tourney runs are great. They are fun and we all get jazzed. But the reality is they are never going to produce a title. Even if you make a final four like 2016, we did not stand a chance vs UNC. Same for 2018 vs Duke or this year vs Houston. It is why I am firm believer in the JB can still coach. He has taken squads that do not belong on nice runs winning games they should not. But those journeys are always going to end. But half the battle in college coaching is recruiting in getting talent, and that alone has been the issue.

I'll say this over and over but GMac sucks as a lead recruiter and should be replaced by Red but old man is to stubborn to do that. I really that is one of the reason's JG continued to start this year is to try to GMac look like he did a great job landing a stud recruit which most of us know is hogwash.

But half the battle in college coaching is recruiting in getting talent, and that alone has been the issue. Not a surprise. More venting and frustration because we are Syracuse not Providence. The S16 was nice. I think we caught lightning in a bottle with Joe and Buddy getting extremely hot launching 35 footers and some other tough ones. We won but it was a bandaid on a lot of issues and I think if those games are best of 7 we lose like 4-2. We should. They are the higher seeds. I just am not going to be satisfied with Bubble and maybe a little run. Why are we in these positions? It’s fine and cool that JB pulled off a minor miracle getting this team worthy for Tourney consideration but this just should not be happening over and over. We were probably the most inept team HOU faced all year from a major conference! I’m just jealous. Baylor and Arkansas are just running their sets, playing their games, business as usual and it was incredibly fun to watch. The Syracuse I know is gone. I guess we all should just bend over, accept it, and let JB run it into the ground. That’s what is happening.
