www.syracuse.com/orangebasketball/2022/01/jim-boeheim-says-jimmy-boeheim-will-petition-ncaa-to-return-to-syracuse-for-fifth-season.htmlWell this is dreadful news. I'm also rather tired of hearing the takes that "Buddy is the least of our problems." I understand the point of view, but truly he's the genesis of all of our problems. Ever since JB decided that after an 0-35 start from three his Frosh year that he was still a great shooter, a level of faith he would only bestow on his son, it was clear this was how it would it all end. The reason Buddy is the biggest problem is, as follows: Let's say you have a 4 x 100 relay team. One year you add a fat kid. After adding the fat kid all the kids that actually run super fast leave because they can't compete as well with the fat kid going all slow out of the starting gate. All the kids that were decent are eventually replaced by fatter kids that can't really compete at this level, but you take what you can get now. The idea that the first fat kid, because he's now the fastest of the lot that now exists on the 4 x 100, is the "least of our problems" is misguided. He's still the reason you suck and until you purge him it doesn't matter. The Boeheim family and friends package of players all have to go before we can move on.

It is dreadful that they are even entertaining it. I’m too pissed to keep commenting and thinking about it as I replied in another thread about it. I doubt he talks with his assistants about issues like this and he really needs a PR guy or somebody to advise him when to keep his mouth shut. In fact, I think the assistants are often left having a bomb dropped on them by his media comments occasionally and they’re having to deploy roster damage control, current and future, from time to time.

this concerns me regarding coach boeheim and what his grand plan is. but jimmy is doing pretty well for us and we are not loaded with options. do we keep the same team then essentially?

JB needs to be fired. I’m done with him. He’s a selfish old man who’s tanking the program he built. Jimmy returning is an absolute joke.

I am not opposed to Jimmy coming back for one more year. I think having that 5th year senior experience is invaluable. Then you have Jesse coming back with 1 more year experience and we will have to see how the guards improve and what happens with Benny. But overall I think having Jimmy for another year doesn't hurt.

The problem is that he’s going to play 35 mpg +. Good portal players at F will steer clear of us because of the Kardashians saga going on. And if Buddy comes back it’s going to do the same and stunt the development of the incoming recruits. A nucleus again hypothetically of Symir/Joe/Buddy/Jesse/Jimmy is still a Bubble team at best.

I agree with Sobe. The issue is not Jimmy coming back. He's a useful depth piece on any team. The problem is the domino effect his presence will cause when he ends up playing 35-40 minutes a game. JB's messing about for his kid's benefit, no matter how good they may be, is the problem

I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that there will be no “ONE MORE YEAR!!” chants ringing out at the Carrier Dome as the regular season winds down, as there were for Carmelo Anthony.
There will be no new version of the “Don’te Leave” shirts either.

I would prefer he doesnt, but if the choice is him or Swider for one more its an easy answer I think. Just hope none of this impacts Benny.

I see what y'all mean and I can't say that I disagree.

If Jimmy was used correctly - as a role player off the bench, I’d love to have him back.
He’s a Kristof Ongenaut level talent that is playing Carmelo Anthony level minutes.
And we lost 4 forwards off of last year’s team that could’ve been back. I assume they all suspected Jimmy was coming in to play heavy minutes, but who knows. In particular, Braswell’s transfer made little sense…..unless he knew he’d lose his minutes to Jimmy.

JB knows he has Jimmy coming back next year so he is basically just forcing Benny out purposely at this point with his minutes and comments. Good times!

He can stretch a D a little and make some weird, unathletic Hoosiers-esque post moves. I hope the NCAA denies the request since we need these Boeheim boys out, more bodies/athletes out there, less stunted development for Benny (assuming he stays), and a chance at better portal players.
