www.syracuse.com/orangebasketball/2024/03/maliq-brown-is-probably-the-most-valuable-most-important-player-on-syracuses-basketball-roster.htmlSo that means we have 4/5s of the starting lineup. No labels anymore G- JJ Starling G- Copeland F- Freeman F- Brown F/C- TBA Bench: Cuffe, Westry, Moore. We need a legit big. Carey and Patterson one of them better be a legit player next year or both should be gone after next year. If we get a legit big who can play D and give us 5-10 PPG I like our team as Brown can play a little 5 in the rotation next year he just can’t be the 5 25-30 mpg next year and that article says he doesn’t want to be 5 the majority of minutes any way he likes playing PF. I have said Brown reminds me of Louisville player Montrezz Harrell. I think Hima, Taylor, Mintz are gone. We need a legit portal big. No status quo anymore.

Harrell could hit those elbow jumpers and stretch the D for the guards to penetrate and can crash the boards for junk points. I see those similarities in their games. Harrell was never the first option but still put up decent numbers. That is how I see Brown.

Brown's being shot over a lot at the 5. He's good for 5 mins a half max imo if you want a high level tourney team.

Who is more likely than that guy to get The Talk from Autry in a week or two? He reminds me of the IMMORTAL Ethan Cole. Literally the best bit ever done on Syracuse message boards was pretending he was good Anytime someone focuses on how a big guy RUNS UP AND DOWN THE FLOOR kinda fast, and ignores that he’s never actually played productive basketball anywhere, you know you’re in for it. Cole, Devin Brennan McBride, Greg Davis….what a time. Carey is along the same lines.

Very possible that we start: Copeland JJ Bell Freeman Maliq I don’t see why Bell would leave. He’s started every game, has a complete green light, and is already a double digit scorer here. Maliq could handle the 5 a lot better when he’s got another 6’9 athletic guy who can board and help protect the paint in Freeman, next to him. In other words, starting 2 power forwards and a small forward rather than a power forward and 2 small forwards, like this year. Ideally I’d like a forward who can do more than Bell at the SF spot, but I don’t know that we’ll necessarily get that guy? And maybe Bell can make another leap?

I hope Bell doesn’t start Me too. I just don’t see a lot of shooting coming from elsewhere, other than JJ. He better learn to compete on the boards and defense though. Zero reason a 6’7 guy who plays starters minutes can’t average 5-6 boards per game.

Harrell’s a beast and outweighs Brown by around 30 pounds. He’s a dominant scorer in the paint and not a great defender.

It’s really just Hall from Clemson who has owned him. I think Brown is a poor man’s Harrell though. Just see the size similarities and he is effective. If he had a legit 5 body next to him I think he would be even better.
