Jim Boeheim’s recruiting from 2016-2023 needs to be called what it was terrible. We had depth issues last year and this kid wasn’t good enough to be thrown to the wolves but we recruited him. Chino, Owens, Patterson their are a ton of these guys we took who did nothing in orange jerseys and we needed to recruit.
Also JB drove Swider out. Swider was willingly to return last year but didn’t stay because our old HC didn’t commit to him.
Crazy how bad the recruiting was but I am happy Jim got to hijack and set our program back so he could coach his kids.
Good luck to Patterson but the fact he was recruited was kinda nuts.

Even if we don’t include transfers or Buddy: Tyus Battle Taurean Thompson Oshae Brissett Marek Dolezaj Jesse Edwards Quincy Guerrier Kadary Richmond Judah Mintz Maliq Brown Chris Bell Quadir Copeland We also had some highly-rated busts. Seems like you’re overstating it. Also, I would have figured you’d be ecstatic that we cleared a roster spot and parted ways with this particular recruit, so I’m not sure why the commentary is relevant here.

You would think a kid who was patient enough to redshirt for a year, would be patient enough to be 3rd string for a year, before the seas part and opportunity abounds to become a 3 year starter if you’re any good.
So that makes me think: 1) We’re bringing in another big. Or 2) We’re recruiting over him and will land someone better than him that’s younger than him. Or 3) He’s not very good and will likely never be in the mix here.
Or maybe a combo of some of those things? We will see. Will be interesting to see where he lands…..that may tell us a lot about whether number 3 is true.
Also, another factor - he was recruited when we still played zone. JB loved the tall string beans with mobility. Might no longer be a fit for the program?
