He was a mess last night in YAC scenarios. Thought his change of direction was awful and was juked a few times badly partly by taking bad angles. I thought the secondary as a whole was OK. Thought the Liberty receivers were pretty nice. The one guy dominated and their other two were solid. The frosh was pretty physical. If their QB had more time to throw we might have been in trouble.
A little worried with how slight and thin Harris and Jackson are. Riley will be ok because they line him up everywhere and get it to him in space. But, I only remember one completion on a crossing route. I guess everyone is saying that they were playing coverage deep but we just didn’t have much at all to the WR underneath or on crossers. I worry about encountering press man moving forward. Might miss Custis more than we think.

Dang Sobe, you are so spot on with everything that a few of us that went to the game thought afterwards.
Tommy needs to use Trishton as his main weapon as he's the best WR on the team. Hopefully they can get on the same page like Dungey would with his top WR's. Would have like to see them use the TE a little more too. So right about why they never ran any crossing routes as Liberty was getting some nice plays with those calls.
Some of the play calling was questionable too. What kills me is you get 7 or 8 yards on first down then they throw the ball. I mean WTH, you just gouged a defense for that many yards, you are going up tempo so run the ball again. If you do get a few yards then it's 3rd and 1 and would rather have that instead of 3 and 3 sometimes. A few of the 4th down calls were crazy too, especially the one where it got picked off right outside the end zone.
Hopefully the D continues to play well and we get Mckinnley back for Clemson game. Black had a helluva game last night but that's what he's got to do when they are trying to double both of our DE's. LB's played well too last night for the most.
If the offense can get it together we are going to be so much better going forward but gotta Tommy sometime to adjust too. Also OL has to come to come together as well and they have 2 or 3 new starters from last year. Maryland is going to be a tough game and hopefully they can go 2-0 before facing Clemson.
BTW think Liberty is going to only get better going forward. They are not bad for a team that is in their second year of D1 football and having Freeze as coach will help although I'm not a fan of the rat cheating/recruiting bastard. I think he'll only be there a few years then a higher D1 school will come calling.

I didn’t get to watch the game. I’m more concerned about the offense than the defense. Maryland is no cupcake. We will lose if we don’t bring our A game or if we’re looking ahead at Clemson.

According to Dino, since they never had seen their D before they had no way to game plan for it. So they were making adjustments as the game went on. Agree with you, O should have been better and capitalized better. We were lucky that Liberty missed a FG and then SU got a huge turnover when they were getting close to scoring.

I know Charlottesville very well and the Roanoke/Blacksburg/Lynchburg area a little. SO scenic and so great to always see the Blue Ridge mountains everywhere. Good post. I thought Liberty wasn’t bad at all. That big Latvian or Lithuanian DT was giving our line problems. They had some physical defenders and skill players. Frankly, their WR corps made ours look like JVs. Part of my worry with Jackson is what I mentioned earlier. He is VERY thin and slight. He looks 175 sopping wet and Harris isn’t much heavier. He’s definitely talented like you say. Curious to see what happens against press man. Saw some writer post this re: Maryland. Kent St was 2-10 last year and beat Howard 54-10.

Yep, it's really a nice, nice area. I drove up from Alabama as I have a high school buddy who lives about 20 minutes from Lynchburg. The only bad thing is that we had to deal with the hot sun the whole first half but beside that it was a real nice experience. Agree about WR. Jackson doesn't seem to bad thick wise but I agree a lot of the soph/fresh aren't strong, strong right now. Hopefully that will come in the next year or two. I think it's so important for a kid to RS his freshmen year. Give his body time to grow to become a college player, learn the system, and adjust to college life. Some kids think they should come in and start right away but they got realize the jump from HS to college. Got talking to Freely's dad and he said his son was like a little last year as he redshirted and was tough for him to adjust not playing next year. Hopefully the kid will get his chance this year or next year to shine. Dad was really cool and look forward to seeing him at the FSU game. Also got to meet Devito's parents and they are a hoot, especially his dad. Luke Benson and Hackett's parents were there too and got to chat with them. Really nice people. Devon Ellison's dad actually made the trip too and he's crazy. Said Devon is doing good at Duquense and they have their first game next Saturday. He ended up coming cause they were only a couple hours a way. Someone said Curtis Harper's parents were at tailgate too but never saw them. I also met Courtney Jackson (WR) mom and grandma. They had drove that morning from Pittsburgh (5-6 hour drive) and had to head back that night right after cause they had things going on Sunday morning. Glad I wasn't in their shoes. They were both nice too. I guess if one good thing came out of that other board was folks getting together for tailgates. Texan Mark is awesome on organzing and running those.

Thanks for sharing. Yep, agree about the RS. Yeah, to me Jackson looks super skinny and Harris not much bigger. Realistically I think both are probably right around 6’0’’. We’ll see.
Yeah Mark is awesome. I live in Cleveland and from Akron originally. Went to the tailgate @akron years ago. Was a good time!
