I haven’t had the chance to watch anything but the highlights yet (which I’ll post below), but is today’s game true progress (a sign of the potential of the team in the future) or was it just a hot game? Has Washington finally earned some more minutes? How did we hold Devoe and Banks down? I’m curious what you all think?

Probably a little of both. Read my post in the other thread.

Today was a big leap forward. While I admit we probably can’t sustain that type of play against elite teams, it was definitely an improvement. That’s the type of effort it’s going to take to compete against better teams. Howard Washington definitely needs to play more. Hughes was unconscious... just amazing. I liked what I saw from Edwards in his limited minutes too.
To answer your question... probably something in the middle. Improvement, and fluky hot shooting.

I’d like to know how we can look soooo bad in one game and look soooo good today? I don’t know what to make of it. I’m happy but I can’t help but think it’s only one hot shooting game against a team that didn’t play tough D. I hope it’s progress.

Epically bad the last few games to unstoppable today? Pretty weird if you ask me. I think Ga Tech’s game plan was poor. They gave us countless open threes. Better teams are going to play us much tighter on the perimeter. I want to believe today’s play was meaningful, but I need to see a lot more to believe it.

It was odd. Banks looked like twice the player with twice the explosion and physicality last year. Their backup PG is not good and the whole team turned it over with reckless abandon. We did have better movement but I saw a ton of threes/launches without moving the defense and of course we got some good threes in transition. That Akinjo being out for GTown is huge since a good PG is going to give this team a lot of problems. Still, one would think GTown is going to play us tighter with better athletes than GTech has. Hopefully Washington gets a lot of reps this week in practice prepping to start!

The Georgetown game will be interesting, and very hard to predict.
I don’t think Washington will start, but I do think he’s earned meaningful minutes. We need to find a way to get him 15-20 mpg. I also think the Hoyas will play us much more physically than Ga Tech. What remains to be seen is the effects of the loss of players on the Georgetown morale, and how much will the loss of three guys screw up the rotation. If I’m Syracuse, I try to run them out of the gym, playing super fast like we did today. When we don’t have to score in a set offense, and can score in transition our size deficiency is negated. Of course we have to rebound if we want to run. We certainly got a much needed confidence boost yesterday. We looked like we stole the playbook from the Golden State Warriors championship teams yesterday.

Yes if we can score without dealing with running true offense and facing a set defense then that will help. Good point. We still aren’t really driving much and it will be harder to do so against the Hoyas. Maybe we can get them into foul trouble with their lack of bodies now. They did crush a pretty good SMU team on the road yesterday.
