I agree with a lot that has been said. I think the coaching has generally been OK. I think they have come a long way since NYC which was rock bottom. The improvements have been in order to stay competitive with mid-tier programs and ones ‘beneath us’ in a down ACC to boot. It’s a credit to the players not giving up (until possibly late in the Miami game) but it also illustrates the shape we are in as a program. Personally, I don’t think JB is doing much on offense. It’s more/less “you go make a play/shot.” They have some talented shot makers and more green lights than any team in the country by a mile. Though some of those Arizona St guards launch without any conscience or structure as well. He allows them to take terrible shots and hunt their own shots without moving a defense much. Sometimes Marek and Sidibe can make a play these days posting up or Marek driving if he doesn’t lose his balance/foundation due to how weak he is. But, as we are starting to see now, the lack of movement and probably the fatigue is catching up to us. Better athletes are locking up our guys and scoring is getting tougher. Our starting backcourt isn’t good or athletic enough to drive into the defense and kick consistently and we aren’t running enough crisp sets and off ball movement to counter this. When you have a bunch of spot up shooters and 2/3 of them aren’t good athletes with limited ability in the post, it’s going to catch up to you because (besides talent) I think JB has run the starting backcourt into the ground. Just like he did with Ennis/Cooney and other scenarios. This is part of coaching. JB has a comfort zone and he won’t budge. With the way UVA has turned it around I now believe Bennett could do better with our group. Not a lot better but he’s a genius. They will be an 8/9 seed and a frightening matchup for a 1 seed. Great point about UVA. I believe they lost 4 starters and look where they are this year oh and they play M2M with a really small guard. This hogwash about our guys not being able to play M2M or we aren't good when we play is 100% on JB and not the kids. He just refuses to make changes which equals mediocre b-ball year in and year out.

Maybe he is right but how are teams with even less talent able to play it? How do mid-major teams pull upsets or go deep into the tourney? Why can’t you play a couple of possessions of it simply to change it up when your zone is getting torched? Furthermore, what’s the quality of M2M we are running in practice since we don’t believe in it? Probably pretty bad and weak. I think there is a correlation there with how poor we often have looked for YEARS going against good and physical M2M. We don’t have the culture and good practice habits with it.

Seriously, with Hughes but all but gone what is JB's plan at this point going forard?? Bunch of guards are transferring from other schools but don't see SU mentioned at all in reaching out. He can't be serious on continuing the next two years with this same backcourt. Girard isn't a starter but a good bench/role player. Buddy is good but there are a lot better out there. Don't what they are thinking about SF at this point and who is No. 1 option, Buddy??

I don’t have a The Athletic subscription but apparently tomorrow that Matt Gutierrez fellow will drop an off-season conversation article with Boeheim. That should be interesting. Probably more of the same verbal diarrhea. “We’re really young.” “The league was more difficult than people think.” As far as the roster? Who knows. Not sure if/when he’s had or has scheduled meetings with the players and a talk with Hughes. The pandemic has made a lot of this problematic. Same with recruiting.

Towns was never choosing Syracuse over those other schools... seriously let’s be real. We’re a shell of what we used to be as a program.
It’s time to clean house. JB needs to retire. There’s nothing to dispute anymore. Sanctions are over. We’re nothing more than a mediocre team with no end in sight. All good things must come to an end. It’s time.
