I have gone through the entire roster of every ACC team, and the ONLY team in the ACC that does not have a player over 220 pounds is...
You guessed it...Syracuse!
EVERY other team had at least THREE players (even if they were not starters) over 220 pounds and FSU has SEVEN!
The argument that Syracuse is soft and lacking size, strength and beef cannot be ignored anymore. No wonder we struggle to compete! Our roster doesn’t stack up to the rest of the ACC. It isn’t debatable.

It’s a pretty sad indicator of the state of things at SU. I can’t imagine the two C targets they are after will commit. One will probably end up at Iowa and who knows where the other kid will go.
After all the top guys with size/strength eventually cross us off the list we are forced to scramble and find the projects who have some mobility but are so skinny and raw. It’s going to be another offseason of needing to land an impact C, IMO. Unreal. We thought we had that with Anselem but he and the rest of the crew aren’t ready. It’s a real mess.

Of course it is a massive issue. I would kill for a Rak, Arinze, Rick Jackson, Fab, Dejuan pre injury type beef down low. Someone who can actually score with their back to the basket.
But to say we struggle to compete in the ACC because of it just is factually incorrect. We are over .500 and 7th place in the league. If you want to say its why we struggle to compete with the top of the conference I can get behind it. But not that we do not belong.
Maybe I am too optimistic but that is why I view us as closer to being to where we want than most. We are so wildly outmatched at some spots (YES THIS IS JB's FAULT). And yet we still hang around the middle of the pack this year as well as others. If we can just slightly upgrade the talent base and physicality of the team I think we could be a top 5 ACC team and even ranked at points.

We struggle to compete at the level that will make us an upper echelon team in the ACC. Yes we’re middle of the pack, and that’s a testament to JB given the lack of talent, strength and balance on the roster. BUT, recruiting is a huge part of coaching, and he’s not getting it done. Just as concerning is his apparent inability to keep guys happy with playing time. Players have been leaving early much more so than ever before. Even those who are not expected to be drafted. Or they transfer out. These are major issues that cannot be overlooked. I don’t see it improving because I think we could lose Woody, one or two of the Bigs, and maybe Q, Allen and Marek this offseason. Sidibe is toast. And... I don’t think we land Clingan or Mulvey either.

Anselem remains intriguing moving forward. It's been good to see Jesse down low doing okay, as perhaps this makes it resonate with JB that playing VERY thin kids, even if their height aligns with a 5, does not work. I feel bad for Marek, so overmatched, and just gets destroyed down there. It's so easy for a 5 in the middle to get stuff done, especially if they can pass (AT ALL) We do need the bulk though.

Anselem I think is our best hope to right the ship at that position. I still don’t think JB is happy with the position. Based on the comments he made in one of his looney radio shows or in a presser (can’t remember which one), he wasn’t expecting anything from Jesse or JBA this year. He said that. That he wasn’t planning on using them. So, this leads me to believe that they were projects you stash and hopefully get something out of eventually. Makes sense since they struck out on so many top bigs. Fast fwd to now and they are AGAIN going after Cs hard. They are in recruiting (Mulvey just committed to Iowa) and will via portal. So, this to me means that a bunch of guys are leaving and/or they aren’t sold on. The problem with Jesse is if he CAN’T get much stronger. He has a nice touch and shows some skills but he also is a bit of a plodder (somewhat fluid though) and you just can’t play him in small ball. Sometimes he can’t finish. I’m blown away when watching that Hunter Dickinson on Michigan. One can understand why we went after him pretty hard. He’s not a black hole on offense, can step out and make a jumper, has a jump hook, rebounds, and has great footwork. I think Jesse will stay. I hope he does. He’ll never start nor should he but I just hope Anselem is ready to be the athlete/rebounder/shot blocker we need in today’s game.

Yeah, concur with all you said.
It's been a strange year observing the 5 spot.
Marek clearly can't handle it, yet we overload him with minutes even when he's offering up nothing on defense, and worthless on offense as a result. For the record, I really like Marek, this is NOT a shot at him, but the coaching.
Franks seems to have the frame to turn into something, but I've thought that before and been wrong. Decent risk/reward with him, and I'm excited to see what he has.
Jesse will be useful as a reserve, and has been disruptive in ways that Marek simply cannot be, just due to his length. He still struggles, and doesn't seem to have great balance, but will be useful.
JBA. I'm not sure what he's doing, but he's intriguing. He moves well, he's bouncy, but may be years away from establishing a position. Does he end up a PF? He's not strong enough, and doesn't seem to have the type of game for a 5. He seems like a SF that grew too tall for his own good. If that makes sense.
That being said, we always have a supply of "intriguing" players that can't play the 5. Not sure that's a recipe for success.

JBA in my opinion is no where close to a P5 player. Seems like a good kid and good teammate, but unless he is content to just be on the team and have fun I cant seem him not transferring.
Jesse has always intrigued me because of his touch around the hoop and even shows at the free throw line. He certainly looks lost on offense but if he can get comfortable mixed with his ability to finesse and finish around the hoop I think he can be something. And you certainly cant teach his size/length.
Frank I have no clue but certainly appears to have spring and bounce which is always a help. Needs to fill out more like they all do. Id like for Jesse and Frank to stick around and battle it out for the starting 5 personally. Unless we can land an impact transfer which I doubt it feels like our best option.

Hahah, I'm not sure he is either, but I enjoy watching his hustle. I also think he may have a better handle than Buddy. j/k, but seriously, he might Yes, Frank seems to have the best mix of what you might like about Jesse and JBA. If they were staggered and we had them at different times with one ahead of the curve, and already producing, it would be a fun tandem. Right now it's just question marks. JBA could turn into a BMK I guess? Maybe. I don't know. I was never his biggest fan either until the final 1/10th of his Senior year.
