The people without their heads buried in the sand are starting to realize we are in trouble. Which I was getting called super negative for years ago because I saw our true place in the pecking order. Bees creating a safe space on that boards makes people feel a lot more confident in our place in the college sports world.
I understand we have some pluses but this realignment stuff has always been about money, football and value. We punted on being relevant in football far too long. It sucks but thankfully some of the smarter people are starting to speak up.
Florida State isn’t going to get this soft landing but they are doing all the work for North Carolina not to come off like a bad guy when they abandon NC State, Wake Forest and Duke politically in NC. That is probably their biggest obstacle in leaving the ACC which they are the kings of. FSU destroying the conference nationally by being giant losers gives UNC cover to make its decision and take UVA with them to either the B1G or SEC probably the SEC.
If FSU weren’t giant d@cks I have heard from an ESPN friend that he thought a SEC-ACC merger was possible towards the end of the ACC contract and while it may have happened. This won’t happen if the ACC blows up earlier. We all know this ESPN vs. Fox and espn won’t give money just to give it but Florida State is cash strapped and acting out.

FSU leaving doesn’t necessarily create a domino effect. UNC would still need to see the financial benefit in paying the same price to go elsewhere (I think they’ll join the Big 10 eventually). FSU could leave and there would still be 16 teams (plus ND) remaining. Also, I don’t understand why one or two teams leaving would affect a potential SEC/ACC merger. We’re talking about 34 teams total. The SEC won’t take the entire ACC anyway. More like eight. There’s a good chance we would be in that eight anyway. I don’t see a Florida school being part of that deal, or more than one school each from North Carolina and Virginia. Clemson would be the only redundant school IMO. Maybe your friend has specifics, though.

In thinking about this more, an ACC/SEC merger would also mean that some ACC schools would go to the Big 10. So that would kick off the the move to the 2x24 model, with room for six new schools in the Big 10 and eight in the SEC.
Right off the bat, we can put UNC/UVA in the Big 10 and NC State/Virginia Tech in the SEC. Duke and Wake would get screwed. Are we all in agreement there?
Are we also in agreement that SMU and Louisville would get screwed?
So with four spots remaining in the Big 10, the following ACC schools would be in play: Georgia Tech, Miami, FSU, Notre Dame, Clemson, Syracuse, and Boston College. Of those, Notre Dame, Clemson, Syracuse, and BC would also be in consideration for the SEC, along with Pitt, Cal, and Stanford. Some of those are long shots, but can't be ruled out completely.
Let's not forget the Big 12. They would factor into the equation as well, even if most of those schools would not be in contention. I could see the Big 10 looking at Colorado for sure, plus Arizona, ASU, Utah, BYU, and Kansas. The SEC would be interested in the same schools; maybe Kansas State and West Virginia.
With all of that said, here's my prediction for the Big 10: UNC, UVA, Georgia Tech, Colorado, Miami, and Notre Dame.
For the SEC, I have NC State, Virginia Tech, Clemson, and either Arizona or Arizona State. That leaves four remaining spots, with the following schools in the mix:
Syracuse BC Pitt Cal Stanford BYU Utah Kansas Kansas State West Virginia
That's who I believe we're competing with. And it's really only 7 schools, because they won't take multiple schools from the same state. I have to say, I like our chances with that group.
And yes, to be clear, I'm saying that some big name programs would be left out in the cold, including FSU.

I think their fanbase prefers SEC but there AD doesn’t have a preference. They turned down the Big Ten in 2011/2012. When UNC makes a decision it will make things a lot more clear. The schools left that won’t be left in the dark North Carolina, Virginia, Arizona, Kansas, Miami(Fl), Florida State, Clemson. Syracuse is in a spot if they got their shit together we would be more appealing than Pitt/West Virginia types. I think the merger would be ESPN purchasing the brands they would want under the SEC banner and those schools would likely get less than a full share unless it was UNC.

Yeah, UNC and Virginia could go SEC. I’m not sure Kansas brings much to the table. This isn’t about basketball. They don’t bring anything to the SEC, because Mizzou already brings in Kansas City. The Kansas City market, while growing, probably doesn’t hold enough appeal with the Big 10 either. They already have St. Louis because of Illinois. Do you think the SEC would take a second team from Florida or do you think the Big 10 adds FSU and Miami?

They aren’t wanted by the SEC and big ten could use their leverage if they were interested in them. I think Miami appeals to the Big Ten more than Florida State but the Canes aren’t publicly behaving like the Seminoles. It doesn’t matter if Florida State goes away they are gone from the ACC. Our moron fans have to understand this all about a negotiated settlement for when Florida State is gone. Their fanbase is pissed that Florida is going to get double the money and their fans think they are better. The ACC should have worked with them the last decade but again the ACC leadership under Swofford ensured the conference was a timebomb. It’s going to blowup because of his poor negotiating in 2009. That negotiation was just terrible and great deal for the ACC which caused them to add Pitt and Syracuse to reopen the negotiation and get more money but getting the network extended the deal even further. The ACC is dead at being a P2 it can be 3rd but we shall see.

The new Big XII works because everyone is on the same page and realizes they aren’t Big Ten or SEC schools and nobody thinks they are better. Florida State and Clemson think they are better than the ACC. They be but the SEC doesn’t want them so it’s Big Ten or bust.
Kansas/Arizona would be the top brands in the Big XII now. Kansas football is improving and it has national brand. Same for Arizona. If will be interesting to watch the Big XII going forward UCF could pass FSU on the field. FSU if they don’t get into the Big ten are we playing a dangerous game. UCF is a large school and pumps out a lot of alums each year. They could be dangerous in a power conference.

My guesses right now how this plays out.
Florida State & Miami= Big Ten bound North Carolina & Virginia = SEC bound Pitt/Louisville/Virginia Tech/NC State = Big XII bound
Syracuse/Duke/Wake Forest/Boston College//Georgia Tech/Stanford/Cal/SMU out of luck starting their own new football luck.
Clemson is a wildcard and could end up anywhere with a Big XII school picked off by either. Maybe Oklahoma State and Clemson to SEC together?

Clemson now suing. I told everyone 3 years ago we were going to get relegated but Bees and Xtreme didn’t want to believe it.
Our administration just wants to cash checks. They let football rot and finally invested. They let basketball rot because Boeheim wouldn’t retire.
Our school doesn’t need to win NCs it just needs to invest in being relevant and wake-up a fanbase that can be relevant.

I think at the end of the day we will be apart of the B12 or a rump state ACC. I don’t think we have the juice for B10

I think at the end of the day we will be apart of the B12 or a rump state ACC. I don’t think we have the juice for B10 ACC makes more than Big XII now. Big XII lost Oklahoma and Texas and rebuilt because those programs invested in winning. They aren’t going to be blueblood except Kansas Basketball but they do enough to have solid programs in football and basketball every year. The problem is Louisville/Pitt/Virginia Tech/NC State are the perfect additions if UNC/UVA/Florida State and Clemson leave. Miami is dangling out as well. Syracuse football did nothing for so long. If we had Fran Brown 5 years ago I am not worried. Our biggest issue has been talent and Brown has shown he can cure and upgrade that. Syracuse has juice nationally. We have just sucked in football for 20 years and the shifts have been made. Basketball our brand isn’t shit but it’s irrelevant. I want to know where Clemson and Florida State think they are going. I can’t see ESPN okaying them to the SEC and the lawsuit is on the ACC side but eventually the clock runs and changes can be made. The Big Ten is at 18 how many do they want. How many does the SEc want? It’s not just going to magically work out for us like old idiots over there think. We need to be relevant.

Clemson and Florida State are telling the conference they want out. The conference has the contract and GOR on their side. However you can’t keep them long term. The conference will settle when those schools can afford it. Florida State has no money. Clemson can raise the money. They will settle and be gone within 2-3 years. Eventually the conference will let them out. ACC wants to hold on till the Big XII can renegotiate then maybe a merger can happen. The ACC is a ticking time bomb as I have said. North Carolina and Virginia are the ones that kill the conference and they are smartly letting the morons Florida State and Clemson do all the work for them and then they can see what it will take. North Carolina is the crown jewel of the ACC. ESPN will want to keep North Carolina. Eventually North Carolina will join the SEC. The SEC will take who ESPN tells them. Florida State and Clemson if they leave they won’t get full shares from the Big Ten so they will basically pay a ton of money to get a partial share for years and then basically be a decade from getting the money they think they should get. They are dumb.
