I'll post a solution:
Revamp our offense to involve the center (of course that actually requires a big man that can shoot). Hire a real big man coach so the elite big guys are interested in Syracuse again.
Or a really unpopular opinion:
Perhaps JB is holding the program hostage by staying longer than he should? How can we expect to recruit when our coach is in his mid 70's? I love JB. I appreciate JB's contributions. He built this program... And now he's hurting it. The game is evolving, and we are not. I wish we had stuck with our plan to have Hopkins be the next coach. The future of Syracuse basketball would be much brighter. We might've landed Stewart too.
We're off probation, sanctions are over. We have open scholarships... there is no excuse.

We really haven't had a great center since Rak left. Before that it was Fab Melo till all his little problems surfaced. It's hard to get guys to come here as some do not like the zone and also they aren't utilized more at the Center position. I think Griff has done a decent job considering he's only going on his second year working with the big men. Hopefully Sidibe will fully develop and be the center that we saw against Pitt last year.

I'm sure Griff is doing his best. I'm not knocking him. But if I'm an elite high school big that watches college hoops, I have zero interest in going to Syracuse to be a shot blocker who occasionally gets thrown an alley oop pass. We're not getting a good big until those two things change. I can list countless schools that don't have the name recognition of Syracuse that landed better centers the last few years. Georgetown with Ewing can get a better big man than us.
JB is pissed at the sanctions and the stripping of his wins. He has every right to be. He's a competitor, and wants to win again. But the deck is stacked against us. Others cheat and don't get in trouble. We get sanctions for doing virtually nothing. I get it. But, if ever there should have been a level playing field it should have been this year with the FBI probe. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize it's not changing.
And if it's not changing, we must evolve. Evolving requires change. The winning formula of the past doesn't necessarily work in today's college game.

Biggest cheats of schools for NCAA Hoops - Dook UK Kansas Oregon I agree with you (except I'd throw in UNC). And it's not changing. We must change.

It's hard to get the top kids when it comes with a price and SU don't play that garbage. It's just amazing the idiots at NCAA just turn the cheek with these schools.

It's just amazing the idiots at NCAA just turn the cheek with these schools.Β I agree with you. But the problem is that if the system isn't changing than we have to change. I simply don't believe that every school but Syracuse is cheating and that's why we can't close. I can accept finishing behind the likes of Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, etc. But I have a hard time swallowing that ALL of these teams landed a higher ranked center than we did (and I'm only looking at 2019- in which starters minutes are a very real possibility):: Southern Cal Texas Gonzaga (2) Louisville Florida State (2) Vanderbilt Maryland Oklahoma Oklahoma State Notre Dame Illinois Xavier (2) Memphis California Arizona Dayton UCSB Nebraska USTA Georgia Ole Miss Utah Georgetown Penn State Auburn George Washington Middle Tennessee UMass U South Florida Tennessee So... that's not all attributable to cheating. And if it is, then what is JB and SU doing to piss off the powers that be so that they're the only ones getting caught? We can't have it both ways. Either we stink at recruiting centers in a 2-3 zone system which requires a big man to anchor the zone. OR We're the only ones getting caught, in which case JB has pissed off too many people. Neither are good situations to be in. And whatever the cause is needs to be rectified.

SU can't cheat like these other schools since we just got off of a probation a few years ago. You want us to get the death penalty like SMU did in football back in the day . If so we'll be the laughing stock of college b-ball as no top recruits will touch us.

I'm not advocating cheating. I wish we had a level playing field. Undoubtedly, a lot of programs cheat and don't get caught.
I'm not saying it's an easy fix. I don't envy the staff or JB. That's why I often think a clean slate with a new coach that doesn't have the baggage might be what's best for the program. Look at Louisville. That program should have received the death penalty. With Pitino gone they are trending upwards again. They have a top 10 class for 2019.
It hurts me to write this. I think JB deserves to retire whenever the heck he wants to. He is the reason SU basketball is what it is today. But life is a young mans game. I don't think JB can return us to glory in his swan song years. I wish like heck he could because nothing would make me happier than to see him go out on top.

Hopefully when they get rid of the one and done, allowing kids from High School to go directly to NBA in a few years will help. Also hope they will put something in place where they have to stay in college 2-3 years in college if they go that route. Then college b-ball and the NBA will better like it was in the 90's and 90's. Think the one and done has hurt both. .

Getting rid of the one and done will help the college game in general. But i don't believe it will eliminate cheating, nor will it make a difference in time to help JB.
We're sitting ducks as long as JB is running the show. Is it fair? No. Life ain't fair. But sitting around waiting for the rules to change is a waste of time. Cheaters gonna cheat.

I have to say this...
We MUST land another center in this recruiting class. I don't care if we think we have zero chance on some of the centers still unsigned... start pounding the pavement JB. Offer every single center ranked above JBA, ESPECIALLY the Canadian guy I mentioned Bediako. Carrigan isn't the answer either. That guy can't do squat on his Juco team.
It is maddening as hell because I said this over and over on the other board. I said our centers were weak, and that Sidibe shouldn't scare away any top recruit. I got banned for that, because I wouldn't back down and say Sidibe was going to be the next Olajuwon. LMAO. Well I know you all glance over hear from time to time... so this is for you: JAZZ was RIGHT!!!!!!!!!

Ok Deano... when will we be able to speak about the center recruit on Dino's podcast? I'm dying to talk about it. Any word on whether the pursuit/interest may be made public?

Itβs a paramount to get a competent non-beanpole C who can contribute next season. This JBA is a ways away. If we canβt get Carrigan (not saying heβs great but heβs better than what we have) then perhaps a grad transfer or something. Chukwu and Sidibe are killing us. It is a constant comedy of errors/follies with them. To display that at this level and stage of college basketball is beyond embarrassing. Marek at the 5 just should NOT be happening under any circumstamces but weβre screwed there so heβs gotta take one for the team. Iβd kill for that guy Teske on Michigan. Just wait until you see James Banks on Georgia Tech. 6β11 diesel transfer from Texas. We recruited him at one point back in the day. They arenβt good but heβll kill our frontline. Zion and their C will reject our frontline every time if/when we attempt a shot in the post.
