We have one, potentially two free roster spots. Our first need is a big who can play right away. Sidibe just isn’t ready and I doubt he will become ready over the summer. We have a project big in this class. Signing two projects at the same spot just seems like overkill.we need a guy who can help right now

Tyus is gone, and I think Sidibe and Oshae may leave too. If that happens, that would mean the only players returning with any experience will be Hughes, Dolejaz and Buddy. That's scary. JG3, JBA, Quincy and Goodine aren't going to make us a top 20 team next season. We're a sinking ship, except the captain is asleep and doesn't even know it.

I'm not banking on it. I suspect one if not both are as good as gone.

Nate Sestina from Bucknell is likely off the list of possibilities. He's visiting Kentucky. Damn shame because his game is solid, he's beefy, high IQ, and plays with intensity and swagger.

Why they haven't reached out to the Smits kid is mind boggling.

I believe the other day there was an update him and didn't see SU but again we are talking SU so you never know, lol.

I’d make Smits top priority.

The staff reaches out to tons of players all the time. Centers, forwards, and guards. I wonder how many kids these days just say “no thanks” when we come calling. Dreadful offense, poor ballhandlers everywhere, bigs not developing, All-Zone, stubborn/old coach, etc. Can’t be good. Goodine and Girard seem to be pretty good prospects but if they were truly elite they would be ranked that way accordingly. Guerrier looks to me like a CJ Fair-type. Fine but we need difference makers and studs RIGHT AWAY.
Unfortunately I don’t think Syracuse basketball will get back to true national relevance until a new coach/system is brought in. We have the brand, facilites, and cash. The problem I believe is too many of the current college and high school players identify us as All-Zone and a grinding style of play who don’t change anything up. Really boring and ugly ball. Nobody knows Pearl/Coleman/Sherm. Nobody knows John Wallace. Nobody really cares about Melo or Dion Waiters. We don’t ever have highlight reel dunks or Sportcenter Top 10 highlights. We’re usually on the opposite side of that. Guys like Donovan Mitchell and others just posterizing our frontlines. I don’t believe many players WANT to play for Boeheim like they do for Izzo, Roy, etc. Those guys are more teachers and father-figure/mentor-types. The Dome is cool I guess and we have cool uniforms. We’re on TV a lot. You can play a lot of streetball and without structure on offense. That appeals to some and probably frowned upon by many. Unless these new recruits are way better than advertised and Carey does a massive transformation then next season will be the worst of Boeheim’s career, IMO.

I’d make Smits top priority. ZERO reasons not to reach out to Smits at this point. If we don't try to land him, and Dolejaz gets stuck playing the center position again because JBA isn't ready or Sidibe still can't go, I will be so pissed.

That means we’ll get killed again on the boards. Sometimes our set defense gets stops but we just can’t grab a freaking rebound. Probably just need different players with more strength and more desire to “go get the ball” like JB says. It was funny. One game we were getting beat up badly inside and on the boards. FSU maybe. Camera is on Autry and I can see him yell emphatically “box out” to somebody. But, I’m thinking that you don’t box out in Zone according to JB. You “go get the ball.”
