I've been pretty adamant about how horrible our big men have been the last couple of years. I've also been quite vocal about recruiting/playing bean poles. While I agree that a traditional back to the basket big is not a necessity anymore, size/weight and strength do matter. Below is a list of the Sweet Sixteen teams in this year's tournament. I've listed forwards and centers, but Syracuse doesn't match up well in the front court OR the back court against these teams.
How can we possibly expect to become an elite team again when we are outsized and outmuscled against the top teams by 20-100 pounds on the interior? Jesse and Marek are a JOKE. The teams listed below will make mincemeat out of Marek, Jesse, JBA, Sidibe and Oshae (if everyone returns). We are NOT following basketball trends. We're a desperate team that doesn't stack up inside. We can't recruit a real big to save our lives. Feel free to look yourself, the numbers speak for themselves. And feel free to share this research with the "other board." Oops better not, you might get banned for sharing the truth. LMAO. RETIRE JB if this is the best you can do. We do not have a top 20 roster, and it's not even close.

Since I was curious, I did the size/weight of the guards on each Sweet Sixteen team as well to see how we stack up. The discrepancy is not quite as noticeable at the guard position but we are underweight compared to several of these teams. Combine that with the SU forwards/centers being GROSSLY outweighed and it's like we're a JV team trying to compete with the Varsity. Most of these teams have GUARDS THAT WEIGH MORE THAN OUR BIGS. LET THAT SINK IN. JB please retire if this is the best you can do.

Now here's a comparison of size/weight of our 2003 Championship team BIGS against our roster coming in next season (I've included Jesse because he's not going to get any better offers than Syracuse).
The bigs projected to be on next year's team are grossly outweighed/outmuscled even by our championship roster. People defend players like Marek and Jesse by comparing them to Warrick, but even Warrick was almost 40 pounds heavier than Dolejaz, and 15 pounds heavier than Edwards (and that's assuming he really did gain the weight because the guy sure doesn't look any bigger than Marek). C'mon folks... we're absolutely not fielding an ACC caliber team next year. Maybe we should join the Big Sky conference??? We might actually finish in the top 2-3 teams there. ***Our front court next season is overmatched by 43 POUNDS by our championship bigs.***
National Championship Team 2003 Forth 7'0. 256 McNeil 6'8. 255 Warrick 6'9. 219 Anthony 6'8. 230 Average weight 240
Dolejaz 6'10. 180 Brisset 6'8. 210 Braswell 6'9. 184 Sidibe 6'10 205 Guerrier 6'7. 190 JBA 6'10. 205 Edwards 6'11. 205 Average weight 197

Lots of work, Jazz. Nice, ha. Yes, certainly aware of all of this. Itβs freaking embarrassing to see us routinely be the skinniest team in the country top to bottom. Every game you turn on this is true regarding in matchups against our opponents. Every tournament game you put on; every school including mid-majors have more physical players. Boeheim did concede a bit in that presser (pre-Baylor?) that the Zone brings in (paraphrasing) thinner big men. I think he said something like that. Dolezaj should NOT be at the 5 under ANY circumstances, IMO.

We're fielding a junior varsity team these days, and I've proven it. We played zone when we won our championship. The zone doesn't by default require beanpoles. JB is full of shit. We don't need thin guys to play zone, he just can't recruit bigs anymore. Truth!

Since all Syracuse fans want to return to the Final Four I decided to see how our projected roster and bench weight stacked up against the teams who have made the Final Four the last two seasons. The average overall weight of the starters on these teams was 214 as compared to Syracuse's current projected starting lineup next year of 192, and bench average of 194.5 (this is assuming the roster remains intact and we add Jesse). This discrepancy of 22 pounds would be even larger if I factored in pounds per inch. In other words, even the smaller teams (Michigan and Oregon) did not play any beanpoles. Their starters, for their size they were solidly structured/developed guys.
What does this mean... it's further evidence that the Syracuse roster does NOT match up favorably against elite teams. Isn't this what we're supposed to be striving for? My point is that we're weak, and settling for guys on the recruiting trail that in years past we'd never give a second glance at. Its also evidence that our strength and conditioning program is non existent. It's indisputable evidence that we're not recruiting well enough to be an elite team. *This right here... is why I'm not allowed on Syracusefan.com anymore. I drop too many TRUTH BOMBS!
2018 Villanova Brunson 199, Bridges 191, Divenchenzo 200, Spellman 260, Paschall 255 Average weight 221
Loyola Custer 185, Townes 208, Ingram 215, Jackson 230, Krutwig 255 Average weight 219
Michigan Mo Wagner 210, Matthews 205, Muhammad Ali-Abdur 175, Robinson 190, Simpson 190 Average weight 194
Kansas Lawson 235, Dotson 185, Vick 190, Grimes 210, Garret 195 Average weight 203

Purdue-Tennessee game. Tough, physical forwards. Skill all over the floor. Makes me want to cry.

Purdue-Tennessee game. Tough, physical forwards. Skill all over the floor. Makes me want to cry. Yup. But the folks over on the other board think all is fine. Those pictures I posted speak volumes. Some folks don't get to into stats, but pics don't lie. Jesse isn't an improvement, he's what's left in the scrap heap.

Still, without a PG with any kind of speed and bigs who canβt do anything and/or are soft; not much how much better we would be. A little I suppose. Still would get destroyed on the boards if we canβt get stronger guys.

If you are outrecruited and outmuscled at every position... man that's an impossible task. Strength and conditioning, lack of offense, ALL zone, no point guard, no bigs... I mean it's so bad where do we even begin. So frustrating...

Somewhat accurate article but wish it had more punch to it like he really needs to step down and recruiting is suffering, plus no true PG or Center in years -

I mean that's out there in public for all to read. Kudos to the author. That's a stinker of an article for the University and brand perception. Have a few more like this show up, and then Mr Wildhack has himself a quandary.

They have a diverse offensive playbook on top of all this. We might be able to steal a game or two due to the Zone mucking it up but they would own us 8/9x out of 10, IMO.
