Yes I do not disagree with you. And I think it is probably easier to make a final 4 or win a title with option 2 because with more high end talent you can go on a run to win 6 games. Unlike in 2016 vs UNC or 2018 vs Duke where we really had no prayer to win those games.
The only reason I bring it up is because a new coach who is most likely not good as JB but is bringing in better talent is not a guarantee deep tourney run every year and from all the names I mentioned is not even a gimme to make the dance. But yes I agree with the notion that at a minimum more talent means a higher ceiling, so on years that the bracket does shake your way or it all comes together you have a legit shot to cut down the nets.
It just also means a vastly lower floor. And after that initial surge of talent comes in from the first 2-3 classes and you have maybe some "down" teams after kids leave earlier, you miss on a kid, a kid doesn't pan out, injuries, etc the floor is substantially lower.

I also think JB can coach. I don’t really like the systems at all we run per se but he can coach. I think he’s for the most part getting the most out of this squad. They don’t need to be motivated much it seems which is a BIG factor too. However, if we are going to recruit the way we are then the ceiling of our teams is pretty much what we are seeing. Coaching is only a portion of the pie. Personally, I don’t believe we are doing enough X’s and O’s-wise with this collection of mostly role players but offense isn’t the biggest problem. I do wish we would move the ball more at times and not just launch from DEEP without any passing simply because they have range. It would make sense since we can’t take some of the good teams off the bounce at key positions. But, against certain teams it is probably our best way to score. Our assists per game are dwindling rapidly since we are facing better defenders and not enough counter-attacking with better schemes. Obviously, defense is a disaster. But, we are working SO hard to get good looks and separate from defenders combined with heavy minutes logged that the margin for error is so slim. I also think the heavy minutes being logged will catch up to us as it usually does. Just unfair to Buddy and Joe that they are being needed to do so much out there.
I just don’t see a light at the end of tunnel with the current mode of operation, staff, etc. The conference will be stronger next year. Carey and I’m sorry Braswell too were busts and misses even before getting shut down. The idiots who compared Braswell to James Southerland were out of their fucking minds. Braswell never was going to be as strong, nimble, and explosive as JS. All Braswell showed was that he could hit a stationary set shot 3 unguarded occasionally. If we are going to have a Creighton or Northern Iowa type of roster/style and continue to try to ascend in the ACC then we will not get beyond bubble territory. It’s just not feasible. No disrespect to Creighton also. They have a good squad, Marcus Z, etc.
Shaka has been a huge disappointment for sure. Probably Turgeon as well. Crean at least had a team that was a num 1 seed before losing to us. I just don’t see us being a fixture as a Top 4 or 5 seed in the Tourney until major changes are acknowledged then executed.

Yeah the guy Auburn lost for their tourney run was 6’8 240. Texas Tech had that Odiase dude patrolling the middle and he was listed at 6’9 250. Probably not Zone fits for JB. Ironically both Africans. The Auburn guy was a frosh. We get the worst Africans I swear! Also we need to get back to having a 4 who is a good shotblocker. I’m shocked at how bad Sidibe is at blocking shots. Marek is very long but he doesn’t block shots either. Playing devils advocate... are the guys he’s recruiting now zone fits? Arinze, Rick and the Big O managed the zone ok. We gotta change, we have to! IMO, it’s become a recruiting change in philosophy for awhile now that has burned us. He clearly wanted the TLS center as per his comments when he gets pushed by that female reporter about Zone recruiting in that Baylor presser I have posted. The whole “we can get by with thinner guys...” It’s just a big gamble with the TLS African guys especially. After those Mo Bamba/Simi Shittu/Cheick Diallo types, the other raw Africans have burned us. There are some shorter and sturdy Africans like the ones who went to TTech/Auburn but we weren’t interested in those. I think JB has addressed those failures with a recruiting of a Mac Etienne type. Hunter Dickinson would’ve been perfect. I’m just tired of it all.

Guys, some good posts on here but let's get back on Mac Etienne recruitment.
I can move some of this to the main board for further discussion, which I am for, just let me know. Thanks.

Bringing it back to Mac... this is exactly the “type” of big man we need. Not necessarily him, but if not him, someone like him with strength and versatility.

We put some time into this one too. Sad that the future of the program relies on a H.S. Sophomore who may or may not come here. He’s good but he ain’t Stephon Marbury or Kenny Anderson either.
