Got to watch the game last night as I was out of town watching the football team getting whooped by FSU.
Some observations -
Elijah - without a doubt the leader of this team. He just looks and acts more this part. Shooting seems better and is putting it on the floor. Thought he rebounded well too. He goes as we go.
Sidibe - was okay. Nothing earth shattering on offense in regards to moves in the post but had some nice finishes on a few nice passes. Thought he rebounded well on both ends. Hopefully he can continue to build on the Italy trip.
Quincey - To me didn't play a lot but JB was rotating a lot of guys, however we are going to need him in bigger games and think he'll get plenty of PT as he can post up and rebound well. Had one bad TO that JB ripped on him but outside of that he was decent.
Carey - was okay but like the one article said about the TO's has go to cease. I thought he was pretty solid outside of that and didn't start the second half for some reason. Again maybe JB just tinkering with things since it was an exhibition game.
Buddy - he was okay. Didn't get going till second half and think ended up with 3 3's.
Girard - thought he played well and can shoot the rock. Once he gets stronger he's going to be a lot tougher going to the hoop but he did try doing that on and off with some success. Will continue to get better.
Goodine - thought he played well outside of the turnovers and will be a key contributor. Another one who is going to have to get strong although he's already added some weight.
Jesse - thought he was okay for his first game. This kid would be a perfect redshirt candidate and keep see him being a real contributor down the road.
Ajak - thought he looked for the minutes he got. Another kid who is going to take time on figuring everything out.
Washington - nothing positive or negative with him. He's pretty much the odd man out in the back court and hate to say this but I can see him transferring after the year or unless he's just happy not playing he can stay at SU to get his degree. I like his game but the guys ahead of him are better at this point.
Braswell - second best player out there and wow what a difference between last year and this year. The light bulb has gone on for this kid and love his game. He's stroking the ball really nice, putting it on the floor, and playing some great D, again going to be hard to keep him off the floor and not be in the rotation.
Marek - was okay nothing earth shattering but can see he's still trying to get back in game shape and flow of the game. Think he'll be our back-up center again this year (I know ugh) but the other two are just too young and not strong enough at this point, although Marek is no Shaq in the middle either.
Still think the starters will be Carey, Buddy, Sidibe, QG, and Elijah. JG and Goodine will get run for sure and will be game to game on how much they get depending on their play and also the starting backcourt, but at least we have plenty of solid depth. Marek and Braswell will probably be the two the most that rotate up front with the starters. Again I like Edwards and Ajak but can't see them contributing too much of their early freshman careers, but think both can be solid going forward. Hopefully JB redshirts Edwards but we'll see. As I alluded above Washington is odd man out and going to have make a decision on what he wants to do going forward.
IF anyone caught the game would love to hear their thoughts as well.
Carey did start the second half but got pulled after two very quick turnovers. One was particularly bad when he fell asleep waiting for the inbounds pass.
