Good luck to Gerry but I am glad he is gone. We need fresh blood and while I think Red isn’t Jim Boeheim I felt GMac never coached anywhere besides Syracuse so it’s good for him to try another program. He replaced Bernie Fine on staff.
I would try to find a former HC to be new assistant. We need diversity of thought on the bench.
I think Straughn was a great hire. We don’t need another one of him.
Good luck to GMac as he wanted this job 3 years ago. You can win at Siena and go from the MAAC to a P6 job.

Good for him! Hope he does great and gives me reason to root for and follow that program.

Just to clarify what is being reported. Hop did not want GMac to go with him when he left. Hop wanted Jason Hart. That leak was made up by Boeheim because JB wanted to make GMac his successor and jump Red. Wildhack did not step up and keep GMac. That was made up and I know this because Dasher’s source close to the program told me personally. GMac to Washington was never real.

Can’t defend a lot of Hop moves because of where he stands now, but it would’ve been an awful hire, I think Hop knows Gmac is useless on the recruiting trail.

I respect Gerry a lot more for making a move like this, even though it's just barely down the road.
Always seemed like he was a guy that cared more about being comfortable with something familiar than actually taking a shot on himself doing something that wasn't in his backyard. It's possible I'm being harsh making that assessment.

Jake is tight with Hopkins. Good for him for saying that comment was off. Hop didn’t want GMac. As I said that was leaked to try and get GMac to jump Red but Wildhack didn’t do that. Good luck to GMac. We will see if he plays exclusive zone or mixes things up.
He is setting himself up if he does well and Red faulters he could get the SU job. He wasn’t getting it just staying on staff. Hopefully he kills it in the MAAC.

Danny Sprinkle went from Montana State to Utah State to Washington in 2 years.
So he just needs to kill it one time at Siena and he can get an A-10/Big East type of job.

Two good years or solid improvement in two years and he’ll have another job. And coming off a 4-28 season, it won’t be difficult to improve on that. Nicely set up for him to improve things there and strike while the iron is hot and get a better job where it’s easier to sustain success.

If I wasn’t banned, I would post that we should consider hiring Joe Girard for the open assistant coach job, as he is clearly the type of gritty, gym rat, well spoken, coach on the floor type that would make a great future coach.
Someone has probably already posted it and been dead serious, though.

Interesting thought. I’m not sure Joe will be ready to stop playing though. I see him going overseas and playing for a few years first. But who knows right? His masters at Clemson is in athletic leadership. Sounds like coaching or admin to me.

I could also see a Buddy or Jimmy Boeheim exploring coaching after their playing careers end

I will say it again: what attributes does Joe possess that make him coach material?
