Not a solid Oakland team like in the past. Should be an easy game for the boys. Oakland has lost by almost a combined 60 pts to Mich St/Maryland and they have lost to Toledo and Bowling Green as well. If we struggle and/or lose then this would be a horrendous sign.

Would think(hope & pray) the trend of being able to out shoot lesser teams continues. While the same trend of not enough talent against most P5 teams continues as well.

It just sucks that we are still in the predicament of only being able to shoot jumpers (mostly long) pretty much as the method of scoring. We get like zero easy baskets. Very little dribble penetration. Feels like this for years. Let’s hope Oakland’s eyes don’t light up facing our Zone. Their coach knows how to attack it and this game Oakland won’t be facing a team with better athletes in M2M.

I think just think the problem is black and white, we just have a massive talent deficiency from where we use to be. (Which obviously ties back to recruiting)
Even teams that have been largely meh like the last 3 years had a five star kid in Tyus and NBA or G League potential in Oshae/Lydon/White/Gillion. And if the talent isnt there you have to rely on player development, and I think thats been even worse than recruiting. I cant name one kid since maybe Rak who has taken a serious leap from on year to the next. Even the talented guys (Tyus, osahe, Lydon, frank) have largely been the same players from year to year.

Yup. That’s the root of it and then player development as well like you also mentioned. It can’t be proven or not but one also has to wonder how happy some of these players are in this system as of late. Also, Hopkins gone is big. Those kids signed up more for him than JB. Just gotta wonder how many players just want to bolt when they can, not deal with a grumpy old coach, not play all Zone 24/7. A myriad of issues with the b-ball program, ugh.

I just watched some highlights of a game from the 2010-11 season vs Georgetown. Its just night and day. Being a 4 maybe 5 star top 100 legit athlete was the rule not the exception unlike this years team. Big physical bodies, ability to play inside/out were all prevalent.
Those teams probably made us pull our hair out some times with things like free throws and outside shooting at times. Not even like it was "pretty basketball", we scored 58 points and the game was probably a slop fest. But man we were sure never out of place physically or talent wise on the floor.

Haha. That team (offensively challenged sometimes like you say) would beat us by 50 maybe worse. Girard and Buddy would need to shoot first thing early in the shot clock and hope for the best. There would be ZERO dribble penetration. That team could shoot 30 % from the field and still crush this team. Fast breaks and/or playing volleyball on the glass cleaning up their bricks. Lastly, Sidibe makes Keita look like Olajuwon.

Wow what a difference in talent between that team and the current one. No contest. That team would beat this one by a minimum of 40 points. Real guard play, and actual big man play. Night and day.

Amazing what a PG, low post preference, and guys who can create their shots make. Also how many of those kids were Hop's recruits. The only one on this current team that would get any run would be Hughes. Rest would be huge bench warmers especially Sid.

Hate to say this but who cares. Don't even think I'll watch it. SU B-ball is too depressing to watch till they make a change at the top.

CD Bay picked up 3 fouls early on lol. Their stiff big guys are scoring at will inside. Fortunately Hughes hit a couple of threes at the end of the H to put us up 9 at H. Not a good performance so far overall. Interior D sucks and Oakland have a ton of turnovers yet a struggle to push it up to a 9 point lead.

Not an impressive win at all. Oakland got obliterated by the other P5 teams they’ve played. Sidibe is still playing like garbage, and we were playing against a team he should have dominated. He might be the worst center at Syracuse ever.
