Hoping to catch the second half after work. LGO 🍊 How are you watching it? This is a pain in the ass. I would have to pay for another tier of programming on my AT&TNow to get ACCN. Doesn’t look like ‘Extra’ is offered. I was lurking on the other board and it seems like for a couple of posters, the ESPN app isn’t even recognizing the subscription from AT&TNow and isn’t authorizing the content. Ugh!

I missed the first game. I have Spectrum, so I think it’s supposed to work.

Jazz you can keep worry about our bigs on D as we are going to get killed against the bigger teams. As I said in my wrap from last game, MD is going to be the back-up Center this year and don't see much time for the other two bigs. I'm just really surprised Braswell hasn't gotten any run in the second half. Would have liked to see him come in and play along side Hughes and Sidibe but JB as usual stubborn.
Oh also the offense, still a lot of the one on one bullshit and throw up a sh*t shot as shot clock winds down. QG can post up and if Hughes has a match up can do the same thing but we don't use that enough..smh

QG can post up and if Hughes has a match up can do the same thing but we don't use that enough..smh Who me? Concerned about our bigs??? You must be mistaken! LMAO I agree we’re going to get slaughtered by physical big teams. Our inability to recruit a big man with both size AND strength has killed us for years now. The fact that we recruited two centers that aren’t even close to ready to contribute this year after losing Chewy (who wasn’t even very good) and knowing full well that Sidibe is an injury risk is one area I will not give JB and company a pass on. I said it two years ago. I said it a year ago. And I’m saying it now... it’s absolutely unacceptable that we find ourselves in this position for three years straight. There is not ONE satisfactory reason for it, not even sanctions. Shit all the small schools that made the tournament last year had better Bigs than us. JBA and Jesse may prove to be very good players, but they should not have been recruited if they are not able to contribute this season. If we had the time for them to develop, it would be a different story, but we haven’t had shit at the center position for years now, and they’re needed this season. I’m almost as concerned about the point guard position because Carey still can’t handle pressure. Hopefully JG3 can develop quickly and overtake Carey. JG3 looks really good out there. Impressive. My impressions coming out of the exhibition games are that we’re going to live and die with the 3 point shot. We’re embarrassingly soft, and we will get slaughtered on the boards. We have some players with nice long term potential, but we’re a few years away IMO. I’ll be outright shocked if we win 17 games this season.

I agree about JG3, Jazz. He looks so poised out there. He just oozes confidence. I can definitely see him becoming the starting point guard by mid season.
I’ll wait a little longer before I condemn the staff on our big guys. Sidibe looked bad though, which is not a good sign.

I agree with all of you guys. Our centers don’t look very good or strong. One thing that surprised me is that I really thought our ball movement would be better this year with added shooters. Like Deano pointed out it looks like more of the same old heaving of 3’s, not in the flow of the offense but more like just chucking it up there. It’s early, but I didn’t get a very good feeling after watching these games. Next up is UVA! Fasten your seatbelts because it looks like a really bumpy ride this season.

Goodine and JG are going to give a new boost off the bench if the starters struggle -

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to see any games yet due to the ESPN app not being able to communicate properly with my AT&TNow service. They added ACCN about a month ago. Fucking pain in the ass. So take this with a grain of salt. I’ve only seen highlights.
My big concern which is pretty much a realization now is that Boeheim is simply cool with pounding the rock and ISOing players even if they aren’t NBA players. He has always allowed players to ball stop and hold the ball when guys like Beilein and Wright keep the ball moving. Also, the looks we seem to get aren’t the greatest looks anyways. Why? We still don’t really move a defense and Boeheim is cool with one pass and a launch. That stuff gets easier to defend as the season progresses. That’s why we see hot potato and shot clock violations. The players don’t have many plan Bs. It’s the design and structure of the offense. Another reason I feel this way is because of what Boeheim has said early in the season in pressers. He would (paraphrasing) say, “We couldn’t move the ball last year.” We didn’t pass the ball, we drove the ball.” We can pass the ball a little more this year.” We should ALWAYS pass and move the ball! You make the players pass. I’ve brought this up before but I heard Jay Wright on Sirius like 1.5 years ago. He said to Packer that you better believe that we tell every recruit that he’s going to learn to pass the ball ,rebound, handle the ball, and play D (why Quinerly left...unwillingness to play D in his system). I feel like Boeheim doesn’t care about this stuff nearly enough. The offense part of it.
Now, we have some under the radar recruits that are promising but there is a reason we are near the bottom of the ACC as a recruiting class and not regarded highly nationally. Not sure how many NBA players we have on the team even counting Quincy. I bring him up because Boeheim doesn’t really want him shooting threes. He’s struggling there. He needs to be inside more but as a 6’6-6’7 PF he’s not sniffing the league unless you are freak who does a lot of other things at a high level. Looks like Carey is struggling but Girard looks the part and then some, especially with confidence. Inside we could be a mess and JB isn’t going to tolerate the lethargic play and allowing small guys to score on them. Can’t afford to play much Marek at the 5 because Bourama and co. are inefficient. Goodine looks like a better ‘basketball’ player than Carey.
So, we have some decent pieces with better skill than some recent teams. Probably safe to say we’ll collectively be one of weakest teams physically in the P5. So, IMO, Boeheim and the coaches need to scheme on offense a lot better. You just can’t expect limited penetration and a kick, one pass and a contested launch, and the one set play (one of very few) of the corner handoff to the inbounder for a three, to be able to beat decent to good defensive teams. You need to be able to move a defense, have some inside play, etc. We’ll know more after Virginia. For sure there is more cohesion and pieces to work with this year. I just worry that the simple, free flowing scheme isn’t going to be good enough with this collection of players.
